Chromebook Spin 513 Acer Launches First Snapdragon 7c Chrome OS Device

Acer’s first Chromebook powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c compute platform is the Chromebook Spin 513. The new device was launched during the Acer 2020 event, along with announcements for several other products. However, this Chromebook news just might be the most impactful announcement that came out of the event.

Chromebooks, laptops powered by Google’s Chrome OS, have been around since 2011. Over the years, they have gained in popularity, and several brands have released their own Chromebook versions, differing in design, features, specs, and price. In addition, the years have also resulted in Chromebooks becoming even more powerful machines than even before.

Acer is continuing that trend with the $400 Chromebook Spin 513, powered by the Snapdragon 7c compute platform. The company says the improvements and upgrades are designed to “maximize the vast benefits” of Chrome OS. The Chromebook Spin 513 features a 13.3-inch full HD IPS touchscreen display, along with a Qualcomm Adreno 618 graphics card to assist with online gaming and streaming video. In addition, the Chromebook Spin 513’s battery life is rated to last up to 14 hours, providing more than enough power to get through a full day of work or school.

More Acer Chrome OS Devices Announced

The Acer Chromebook Spin 513 wasn’t the only new Chrome OS-powered device unveiled by Acer today, as the company also announced the $700 Chromebook Enterprise Spin 513. Along with the business version of the Chromebook Spin 513, there was also the $260 Chromebox CX14, which is geared towards schools and families. The Enterprise model has similar features to the regular Spin 513, with additional business-oriented perks, like zero-touch enrollment. This feature allows IT departments to be able to ship out the Chrome OS device, and have the laptop automatically enroll in enterprise administration when the new user connects to the internet.

With the Chromebox CX14, Acer built a streamlined desktop option powered by a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor. It also features five USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and one USB 3.2 Type-C port, as well as two HDMI ports. The new desktop model supports Intel Wi-Fi 6 and can be mounted and secured to the back of a monitor, with the help of an optional VESA mounting kit.

Just like it did with its new gaming monitors, Acer went with a blanketed approach in announcing these new Chromebook products. There’s truly a product for most types of user, whether it be the working professional, the student in need of a powerful portable device, or a school administration searching for an easy-to-use Chrome OS-powered desktop solution.
