Chucky Episode 4 There Are Multiple Killer Dolls Theory Explained

Warning: SPOILERS for Chucky season 1, episode 4.

Chucky episode 4 lent credence to the theory that there are already multiple Chucky dolls operating in the Child’s Play TV show sequel. Overseen by original franchise creator Don Mancini, the blood-soaked action picked up following Cult of Chucky’s ending, which revealed he inhabited multiple dolls simultaneously. Despite that, only one iteration of Chucky has been seen terrorizing Hackensack, New Jersey after being discovered by Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) at a yard sale. In Chucky episode 4, “Just Let Go,” however, there were signs that other dolls have been secretly lurking in the shadows and waiting in the wings.

In the aftermath of the dramatic house fire, the various characters of the Chucky TV show congregated at the local hospital. As Devon (Björgvin Arnarson), Junior (Teo Briones), and Caroline (Carina Battrick) recovered, and their parents clashed, Jake and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind) officially teamed up. Together, they looked for Chucky in and around Hackensack, New Jersey, first scouring the hospital and then venturing to the ruins of Lexy’s house. Though they were initially unsuccessful, Junior and others caught faint glimpses of Chucky seemingly running about the hospital. Equally, as she and Jake searched the ashes of the mansion, Chucky emerged from the shadows and once again made an attempt to murder Lexy.

It was there that logistical and geographic issues began to emerge with there only being one Chucky doll in town. As seen when he tried to coerce Jake one last time and then attacked Lexy, Chucky had been dramatically burnt in the fire from the Easter egg and reference-heavy Chucky episode 3. As a result, he was greatly impaired, to the point he even seemed to be limping and moving slower than usual. It just didn’t seem plausible that Chucky had gone from the house to the hospital and then back again — much less that he’d kept up pace with Jake and Lexy when doing so. The more likely scenario was that Chucky lingered at the house to recover and that the doll glimpsed at the hospital had been another Chucky iteration.

It was previously revealed that the yard sale Chucky was placed there by Jennifer Tilly’s Tiffany Valentine. As such, it could stand to reason that she may have disseminated others throughout the town — versions content to lay in wait as Chucky Prime engages in splashier kills to draw focus. With Tiffany and Chucky-possessed Nica making a return next week, this could be the early stages of their eventual endgame, seeding the Chucky cult’s ambush of Hackensack. That would explain why the Chucky initially spotted running around Hackensack Memorial never made a murderous move, despite ample opportunity. It had its own shadowy mission separate from the Chucky that audiences had watched prior to Chucky episode 4.

Though it’s unlikely, that could also mean that Chucky might not have been lying when he told Jake that never killed the Wheeler’s housekeeper. It could have been a separate version that did the deed. In either case, it was clear that the mysterious Chucky form in Chucky episode 4, “Just Let Go” wasn’t injured. He would have been easily detected if that was the case. Plus, Lexy caught a glimpse while the Burnt Chucky was still with the detective. Of course, it may have been the child wearing Good Guy overalls that Lexy and others caught in the corner of their eyes, with paranoia filling the gaps. That being said, the child felt like a red herring designed to misdirect Lexy and viewers in equal measure. Whether or not multiple dolls are lurking in the Chucky series, though, all will be revealed sooner or later.
