Classic Sims Expansion Packs Sims 4 Would Be More Fun With

The Sims franchise is over twenty years old. In that time there have been over 36 expansion packs for the mainline games. That’s a lot of content. The Sims 4 has ten expansions just to itself! And yet, there are still things from those other, older expansions that have yet to be added to the game. Here are some classic expansion packs that The Sims 4 would be more fun with.

Back in April of 2001, House Party was released as an expansion pack for The Sims. It’s maybe one of the least creatively named expansions, as it gave players the ability to host house parties. Having a sim throw a little (or large) shindig has been a staple of the series ever since. The Sims 4 already has this functionality, but what it doesn’t have is Drew Carey. In The Sims: House Party, a successful soiree was rewarded with a visit from the actor/comedian/host of The Price is Right. EA needs to add Mr. Carey into The Sims 4 – and have him bring along “Plinko” and “Mountain Climbers” too.

Similarly, The Sims 4 already has a majority of the content added in The Sims 2: Bon Voyage – namely the ‘vacation’ mechanics for Sims worlds – but is missing the star NPC of the expansion, Bigfoot. The current camping world available in The Sims 4 is entirely too bereft of cryptids. How fun would it be to have sims snap blurry photos of the furry biped? And it’s The Sims, so there would undoubtedly be some WooHoo potential.

Other Classic Sims Expansion Features

The Sims 4 has a few ‘occult’ sim-types already – ghosts, aliens, vampires, mermaids, magic-users, and robots – but is still missing the werewolves, fairies, and genies of The Sims 3: Supernatural. Adding those back into the game would create many more storytelling possibilities, which adds fun for many players who enjoy roleplaying in The Sims. The latest Sims 4 stuff pack, Paranormal, did bring about the return of fan-favorite Bonehilda, who last appeared in Supernatural. Perhaps werewolves will appear with the next full moon?

Taking a more liberal view of the definition of ‘expansion’ – or just straight throwing it out in favor of ‘spin-off’ – adding in features from The Sims Medieval would also up the fun-factor of The Sims 4. The questing system from this game, wherein players would create multiple characters that would join their kingdom while still maintaining a level of automation (i.e. they were not always under player control) was a departure from the usual gameplay of The Sims. A riff on this system, maybe one based around creating non-controllable NPCs who would help with running a store, for example, would add to those previously mentioned roleplaying possibilities that are truly where the fun lies with The Sims.

The Sims 4 has had plenty of content added to it over the course of 10 expansion packs, 9 games packs, and over a dozen stuff packs. Some of that content has been taken from classic Sims expansions. EA has done a fine job of combing through the older packs to find the critical additions. What’s left is mostly smaller stuff, but it is still stuff that would make The Sims 4 more fun.
