“Slice of Minecraft” is a fan-made build whose ant farm-like form factor essentially turns the title into a Terraria-like 2D game. Since its release more than 10 years ago, Minecraft has inspired many a player to deeply explore the range of their in-game creativity. And after all this time, the creations themselves continue to improve and impress.

In the Mojang Studios-developed sandbox, players have constructed everything from homes and large-scale adventures to detailed cityscapes and hulking structures. Most of these builds mature in Minecraft’s Creative Mode, due in large part to the time constraints in Survival Mode. Over the years, dedicated fans even lent their time to further expanding upon previous creations. Thus, one Minas Tirith recreation later blossomed into a full-on Middle-earth map. Similarly, once isolated castles eventually found themselves surrounded by large medieval kingdoms. Fan-made mini-games in Minecraft, of course, remain as popular as ever, too.

Reddit user randomfacepalm recently shared one such creation in a one-minute video. The experience, dubbed “Slice of Minecraft,” appears in the form of an ant farm, making for a 2D game that bears a lot in common with the action-adventure sandbox title, Terraria. An upper level of “Slice of Minecraft” takes place above ground in a space occupied by a couple of people, a tree, and small structures. The builder situated lower levels of the creation underground, complete with jagged rock formations, water sources, and what seems to be a small bed of lava. It’s quite an impressive design, as seen in the following video:

This will no doubt count among some of the best Minecraft builds to date. And there’s no telling how else “Slice of Minecraft” may evolve over time, especially if other players decide to experiment with the idea on their own.

In the 10-plus years since its original launch, Minecraft has received no shortage of regular updates from Mojang Studios. The most recent of such updates, Caves & Cliffs Part 1, went live earlier this summer on June 8 and introduced a whole host of new blocks, alongside additional mobs like goats and axolotls. Caves & Cliffs Part 2 is currently in development, with an expected launch window of late 2021. Part 2 should unleash even more blocks, Noise Caves, and a Bundles feature that should work wonders for inventory management.
