Cobra Kai Every Karate Kid Character In The Season 4 Trailer

A new trailer for Cobra Kai season 4 was released, teasing the impending All-Valley Tournament and a whole range of returning faces from The Karate Kid’s wider universe. Picking up decades after the 1984 original, rivalries both old and new were ignited when a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) decided to reopen the Cobra Kai dojo. Beginning life on YouTube Premium before switching to Netflix, tensions have since escalated across three seasons. Equally, the characters have been fleshed out like never before.

Initially, Cobra Kai explored the continued feud between Johnny and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). Already forming their own personal and relationship dramas, Johnny and Daniel’s respective students threw themselves into the conflict. Things ultimately came to a head at the famous All-Valley Karate Tournament, which originally saw Daniel crane-kick his way to glory. Conflicts were then taken to new levels, and the role of hero and villain consistently shifted, however, with the return of Karate Kid villain John Kreese (Martin Kove).

Having deceitfully earned Johnny’s sympathy, Kreese managed to steal Cobra Kai out from under him, In the process, he began making students more vicious than ever. Viewing the soul of The Valley as being at stake, Johnny and Daniel finally put their differences aside. Uniting the students that remained to them, the pair vowed to defeat Kreese once and for all at the next All-Valley Karate Tournament. Though some Cobra Kai characters like Aisha (Nichole Brown) have been known to vanish between seasons, the latest trailer highlighted a range of returning characters — from both earlier seasons and the original Karate Kid trilogy. Here’s a breakdown of who’s already confirmed to return for Cobra Kai season 4.

Johnny Lawrence

The sensei of Cobra Kai turned Eagle Fang Karate was of course destined to return. Still reeling from the mistakes of the past, his redemptive journey will continue in Cobra Kai season 4. As well as trying to officially end John Kreese’s tyranny, he’ll no doubt also try to reconcile with his wayward son, Robby (Tanner Buchanan). The new footage made sure to show that he’ll lose none of his badass, 80s-obsessed sensibilities, however. Dressed accordingly and sporting retro headphones, he smashed cinder blocks with his bare fists. Equally, for all the teething problems to be expected, the partnership between Johnny and Daniel will seemingly flourish – with the duo also sharing a jovial fist bump.

Daniel LaRusso

Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso will, of course, also return. Having lost his way since his 1980’s heyday, and given in to some of his more negative traits, he was viewed by many as arguably more of a villain. Since reconnecting with his roots in Cobra Kai season 3, he officially came to accept that he and Johnny were two sides of the same coin. Alongside the aforementioned fist bump, he could be seen in the Cobra Kai season 4 trailer demonstrating his Kata technique. However, there was a touch more aggression in his eyes as he did so. As well as a likely sign of Johnny and Daniel’s newly-merged dojo styles, it’ll no doubt be a necessary trait in order to deal with Kreese and other incoming threats.

Miguel Diaz

In terms of aggression, Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) could be seen back in fighting form and tapping into his own. After the fateful incident at the end of Cobra Kai season 2, Miguel experienced a rocky road back to full health. Fortunately, by the ending of Cobra Kai season 3, he had found his footing and a renewed confidence — ably defeating bully Kyler (Joe Seo). With a new hairstyle denoting a time jump, Miguel will seemingly have gotten more fighting fit than ever. With Kyler and others likely intending earlier attacks, that’ll no doubt be for the best. Based on the trailer, Miguel’s less offensive side will also get a workout, with him seen training one-on-one with Daniel in the ways of Miyagi-do.

Samantha LaRusso

Conversely, Johnny Lawrence’s more reckless and dangerous methods will be seemingly embraced by Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser). As well as demonstrating the considerable karate skills acquired throughout her life, Sam could also be seen executing a death-defying leap across buildings. Of course, it could be that she’s simply fleeing from some as-yet-unseen pursuers. However, that would beg the question of how and why she’d go up to a roof if her intention was to escape. As such, a likely bet is that she’s undertaking some kind of “face your fear” training devised by Johnny. The move will no doubt result in anger from Daniel, even as it presumably helps Sam with her lingering anxiety issues.

Robby Keene

Johnny’s misguided son, Robby Keene was also seen back (this time in black). The look (and increased intensity) denoted his embracing the dark side, with Robby having been firmly brainwashed by Kreese. Having previously lost the All-Valley Tournament due to fighting honorably against Miguel’s dirty tactics, the roles will be firmly switched in Cobra Kai season 4. Already haunted by that defeat, and nursing the bitterness over Johnny and Miguel’s bond, he was already set to go all out to win. With John Kreese whispering in his ear, however, Robby will no doubt be an extremely vicious threat in the coming episodes. In turn, those actions will likely result in even regrets weighing him down.

Tory Nichols

Another firmly embracing John Kreese’s teachings was Tory Nichols (Peyton List). Though elements of a sympathetic home-life were glimpsed in Cobra Kai season 3, Tory remained nonetheless committed to her grudges. Since her introduction, those hostilities have been focused on Samantha – who she viewed as spoiled and believed stole Miguel. Sam and Tory’s rivalry will only get worse in Cobra Kai season 4, with Kreese no doubt eager to make sure another LaRusso doesn’t win the All-Valley. As such, if Sam’s rooftop leap is to escape somebody, it’d almost certainly be Tory. Equally, the trailer showed Robby and Tory sparring, indicating their bond will be the next to deepen – for better or worse.

Demetri

Despite still lacking even a surname, Demetri (Gianni Decenzo) has arguably embodied the greatest transformation on Cobra Kai. He was initially the epitome of a shy, high school nerd. Across the three seasons, however, Demetri found both inner and outer strength. Furthermore, he found confidence and even became cool in his own right, even winning the affections of the most popular girl in school. That strength and confidence were on full display in the trailer. The footage highlighted Demetri as having recovered from a broken arm and readying himself to compete in the All-Valley Tournament in Cobra Kai season 4. Though he’ll remain an underdog for many, he’ll remain proof that people can be both nerdy and athletic.

Hawk

Cobra Kai Season 3 saw Eli Moskowitz a.k.a. Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) become the latest character to find redemption. Initially a soft-spoken victim of bullying, he ultimately became one himself upon acquiring his karate skills. Eager to destroy all traces of his geeky, Doctor Who-loving side, he primarily targeted Demetri and was even the one to viciously break his arm. In the wake of the event, however, Hawk increasingly saw the error of his ways and ultimately saved Demetri from further attack in the Cobra Kai season 3 finale. Though he since joined the combined dojo and reembraced his geekier side, the Cobra Kai season 4 trailer emphasized that he’ll retain his frenzied edge.

Amanda LaRusso

Played by Courtney Henggeler, Amanda LaRusso clashed with Kreese in Cobra Kai season 3. Regardless, she retained a much more level-headed view of proceedings than her husband or Johnny Lawrence. As a result, she could always be relied upon for the perfect quip or sarcastic putdown. One such moment was used in the Cobra Kai season 4 trailer. It helped to bookend the footage and offset some of the ridiculousness that comes from thinking too much about the central plot. Though it was a recycled scene from Cobra Kai season 3, it could no doubt stand as a testament that she, too, will return for the new episodes. After all, for all the above reasons and more, Amanda LaRusso has become one of the show’s most beloved characters.

John Kreese

Cobra Kai Every Karate Kid Character In The Season 4 Trailer

Apart from Johnny and Daniel, the longest-serving figure in The Karate Kid franchise has been none other than John Kreese. The deranged Vietnam War veteran was the overall architect behind much of Johnny and Daniel’s feud and general childhood misery. For a time, it seemed as though he could change his ways, winning Johnny over with sympathetic circumstances. Ultimately, however, his old habits won out and prompted him to once again wreak havoc on various lives. With everything at stake via the All-Valley Tournament, Kreese was confirmed to return and will pull out all the stops to ensure victory. The trailer offered nothing of his methods, however, but merely a glimpse of his famously sinister smirk.

Terry Silver

One of the aforementioned stops pulled by John Kreese was an ominous phone call. Based on the photo he was looking at while dialing, many predicted that the person on the other end was Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith). As well as a loyal war buddy of Kreese’s, he was a ruthless millionaire businessman and principal antagonist of The Karate Kid Part III. Furthermore, some theories suggested Terry Silver may be Miguel’s dad. Whether or not that will actually come to pass, a previous Cobra Kai season 4 teaser confirmed the popular villain’s return. The latest trailer reiterated that fact. Though the shot offered little more than a pair of hands tying hair into a ponytail, there was no doubt that it was Terry Silver.

Of course, they weren’t the only characters to emerge in Cobra Kai. Several members of Johnny’s old gang appeared, including the late Rob Garrison as Tommy. Randee Heller reprised her role as Daniel’s mother, Lucille. Yuji Okumoto and Tamlyn Tomita returned as The Karate Kid Part II’s Chozen and Kumiko, respectively. And at the end of Cobra Kai season 3, Elisabeth Shue appeared as Johnny and Daniel’s former flame, Ali Mills. As such, while the above list has remained the only ones confirmed, many more figures from The Karate Kid trilogy could still make surprise appearances in Cobra Kai season 4.
