Tamlyn Tumita As Kumiko

Cobra Kai Season 3 Trailer New Characters Kumiko & Chozen Explained

Tamlyn Tomita portrays Kumiko, who was Daniel’s girlfriend in The Karate Kid Part II. She’s the niece of Yukie (Nobu McCarthy), who Mr. Miyagi fell in love with as a young man. He later left for America after learning that Yukie was arranged to marry his best friend, Sato (Danny Kamekona). The Karate Kid Part II portrays Kumiko as a talented dancer who could potentially move to America to be with Daniel. In The Karate Kid Part III, however, it’s revealed that Daniel urged Kumiko to stay in Japan to pursue her dream job at a Tokyo ballet company.

In Cobra Kai season 3, Kumiko will most likely reunite with Daniel in Okinawa. Since Macchio’s character has been experiencing marital problems with his wife, Amanda (Courtney Henggeler), he may be tempted to re-ignite his Japanese romance. However, it’s probable that Kumiko’s calming spirit with help Daniel reconnect with his Miyagi-Do roots, allowing for clearer eyes and a full heart upon returning to America.

Yuji Okumoto As Chozen Toguchi

In The Karate Kid Part II, Yuji Okumoto portrays one of the primary villains, Chozen. He’s the nephew of the aforementioned Sato, a wealthy businessman who owns all of the property at Mr. Miyagi’s former village. Together, Chozen and Sato continuously threaten Daniel and his mentor. The Karate Kid Part II ends with a fight to the death between Daniel and Chozen, with the former choosing to show mercy.

Chozen’s Cobra Kai storyline may parallel Johnny’s character arc. Both men originally shared a “no mercy” mentality, but are now indebted to Daniel as adults. In Cobra Kai season 3, Chozen may embrace a friendship with Daniel but still try to establish himself as the Alpha Male. The trailer suggests that the former enemies reach a compromise and resolve their conflict through healthy competition.
