CoD Modern Warfare Reveals PS4 Exclusive Lucky Strike Weapon

Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare begins tomorrow, on February 11th, and a plethora of features both new and returning will soon be in players’ hands. But while things like the 4 new or returning COD maps will be available to everyone, at least one shiny new piece of content will only be available to a few.

It is worth taking a moment to appreciate everything that players will be able to enjoy with the coming of Season 2, most of it available to all Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players. On top of the maps, new operators will be available in the coming days, as well as new game modes and opportunities to earn XP.

One of those game modes, a Special Ops Survival challenge on one of the new maps, will be exclusive for players on the PS4 at launch, and it is not the only challenge that only those players will be able to undertake. A series of missions, which must be completed sequentially, will also be made available to PS4 players on launch with a special prize at the end. That prize is a Legendary LMG Blueprint known as the Lucky Strike, and there is no way for PC or Xbox One players to get their hands on it before October 1st of this year. This is not the first time something like this has happened; the first time, a PS4 exclusive Blueprint known as Jack Frosty was released shortly after PS4 players had already gotten exclusive access to Survival Mode.

Of course, this does not mean that PC and Xbox One players can’t build the Lucky Strike for themselves, even if it will, in all likelihood, take them much longer to do it. One of the conveniences of weapon blueprints is that they allow newer players to compete more meaningfully against players who have put enough hours into the game to unlock more weapon customization options. This sort of favoritism has never sat well with fans who don’t own a PS4, and the trend seems to be alienating a good portion of the Modern Warfare playerbase.

On the one hand, this does not constitute a huge outrage, since the only completely unique part of the Lucky Strike, aside from the XP earning missions that lead up to obtaining the Blueprint, is its cosmetic color. A player could just as easily build the thing after many hours of progress and unlocking of components, slap Mountain Dew’s exclusive skin onto their loadout, and feel just as accomplished. Right?

Well, not exactly. The constant access that PS4 players receive, whether permanently exclusive or otherwise, over their PC and Xbox One counterparts is more of an off-putting trend than a series of coincidences at this point. Add to that the fact that a strange feature makes turning while stunned in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare twice as slow on PC, and it’s enough to make some wonder if the devs have a decided preference for the PS4 over the PC and Xbox One in general.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
