Cory Wharton Claimed He Talked Out Some of His Prior Beefs Before Appearing on The Challenge

Cory Wharton has had more than one rocky season on The Challenge, but this year he wanted to enter the competition with a clean slate. With one baby about to turn three and another on the way, winning the money was especially important this time around. After taking a few seasons off and participating in Teen Mom OG, Cory decided to start this competition by talking out some of his old beefs.

Cory has always been a good competitor, but he’s also one of the resident playboys of The Challenge. His shady dealings with women have earned him quite a few enemies over the years. On Battle of the Bloodlines, he had a relationship with Aneesa Ferreira despite the fact that he had a girlfriend waiting at home. On Invasion of the Champions, Cory stuck with Kailah Casillas for the majority of the season, but hooked up with Camila Nakagawa right after Kailah was eliminated. Beyond that, he’s also been a loud, outspoken player who often calls out big names like Johnny Bananas, but can’t compete well enough to pull through a win. While his physical game isn’t the strongest, his social game definitely hurts him during the competition.

This year, however, Cory didn’t want anything to distract him from a win. His girlfriend, Taylor Selfridge, is pregnant, and the one million dollar prize would definitely help their situation, especially since Cory already has three-year-old Ryder with fellow Challenge competitor, Cheyenne Floyd. In a recent interview with EW, Cory explained that he talked out a few of his beefs before he even arrived at The Challenge. He said, “Listen, I had a couple of people on the show that I had a showmance with, and I told myself I am going to win this money to bring home to the people that are depending on me. I talked to these people at the airport and I was like, ‘Listen, no hard feelings,’ and they were like, ‘No, we’re good.’ And from there on we didn’t have any trouble.” Cory went on to explain that his relationships at home were incredibly important to him this time around, so he was strictly here for gameplay. While he referenced Aneesa specifically, Kailah is also back to compete on this season of Total Madness.

Beyond addressing those romance-related beefs, Cory also explained that he and Nelson Thomas had somewhat of a falling out before the season began. Although Nelson is one of Cory’s good friends and an obvious member of his alliance in The Challenge house, Cory admitted that the two men didn’t talk for roughly two months before the season began. However, they managed to fix the rift in their friendship. Cory explained, “Honestly, me and Nelson didn’t really talk for two months before coming onto the show. But once we saw each other at the airport we kind of talked about the things we needed to talk about. We were like, ‘Okay, obviously we’re gonna rock with each other.'”

The Challenge has consistently promoted Cory as one of the faces of the franchise, even though he doesn’t have a championship under his belt. In fact, he’s not even that great of a competitor. He often chokes under pressure and doesn’t seem to be as physically fit as his muscular body might suggest. However, his social game has also been a major downfall in past seasons. If he really managed to repair a few broken bridges before Total Madness began, he might have a shot at a win this time around.
