Netflix unveils the first look at the title sequence for its upcoming live-action series adaptation of the iconic anime Cowboy Bebop. The original anime premiered in 1998 and revolved around a group of bounty hunters traveling through the galaxy on the titular starship in search of targets and running from their personal demons. Cowboy Bebop was originally created by a collective group of Sunrise Inc.’ staff credited under the pseudonym Hajime Yatate.

The new Cowboy Bebop is being developed by André Nemec and penned by The Mandalorian alum Christopher Yost, with Sunrise Inc. partnering with Tomorrow Studios to produce the project. The cast for the series includes John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, Alex Hassell as Vicious and Elena Satine as Julia. The original anime is celebrated as helping introduce Western audiences to the genre and has continued to receive acclaim in the years since, namely for its jazz-infused soundtrack from Yoko Kanno, who is returning to Netflix’s adaptation to compose the score while original director Shinichirō Watanabe served as a creative consultant.

With just two months remaining until the series’ arrival, Netflix has revealed a new look at Cowboy Bebop. The video reveals the opening title sequence for the series’ adaptation with Kanno’s iconic “Tank!” playing over it. Check out the exciting new look below:

The original Cowboy Bebop anime is celebrated for a number of things, but nothing is more iconic to fans than that of its opening credits sequence and “Tank!” track and the video showing the live-action recreation of said sequence is sure to come as an exciting tease for fans. The video features artful recreations of everything from the comic book panel stylings of the original as well as moments including Spike lighting up his cigarette against a blue backdrop, shots of the titular starship soaring through space and the group’s various weaponry being fired. The video also offers a nice tease of what fans can expect from the story of the series, which Nemec has promised will not be a direct translation of Cowboy Bebop.

The opening credits of the live-action Cowboy Bebop offer teases of adaptations of iconic anime storylines “Ballad of Fallen Angels,” “Asteroid Blues” and “Brain Scratch,” as well as another great look at everyone’s favorite corgi Ein. Though fellow fan-favorite character Ed may still be kept under wraps, the video is sure to build anticipation for its honoring of the source material and delivering of its own unique flair. Only time will tell what the creatives have in store when Cowboy Bebop arrives on Netflix on November 19.
