Crisis On Infinite Earths Is Missing Lady Quark

Crisis on Infinite Earths has been raging within the Arrowverse, but one character from the original comic book storyline has yet to make an appearance: Lady Quark. Written by Marv Wolfman, the 12-issue saga was debuted April 1985 and concluded March 1986. Hailed as one of the greatest comic book storylines of all time, fans were overjoyed when it was announced last December that the shared CW/DC universe was planning an adaptation. The first three of five planned installments have already aired – pitting the titular heroes of The Flash, Arrow, and many more against the threat of the Anti-Monitor.

Along the way, a number of new characters were introduced – both heroic and villainous. Tom Cavanagh officially made his on-screen debut as Pariah. Brandon Routh returned to the cape in his second Arrowverse role as Kingdom Come Superman. And, after years of voicing the character, Kevin Conroy made a long overdue live-action appearance as a dark version of Batman. Some familiar faces also made an appearance. Tom Welling reprising his role as Smallville’s version of Clark Kent. Tom Ellis made the jump from Netflix and cameoed as Lucifer Morningstar from Lucifer. Meanwhile, some established heroes were dramatically changed. Lyla Michaels was transformed into Harbinger and Oliver Queen became the Arrowverse’s version of Spectre.

One character that has failed to emerge, however, is that of Lady Quark. Also known as Tashana, the nuclear-empowered hero and member of royalty was created by Wolfman and George Perez. Hailing from the technologically advanced Earth-6, Lady Quark made her comic book debut in Crisis on Infinite Earths #4. Though her world attempted to stave off the threat of the Anti-Monitor and his anti-matter wave, they were ultimately unsuccessful. As such, Lady Quark could only watch on in horror as her daughter, Liana, was consumed by the negative energy. Moments later, she also lost her husband, Lord Volt. Lady Quark would’ve been wiped out, as well, were it not for the last second intervention of Pariah. Taking pity on Lady Quark, Pariah forcibly transported her away to another Earth.

Devastated by her loss, Lady Quark focused on revenge. Aligning with a number of other surviving heroes, she ventured to the dawn of time and ultimately helped defeat the Anti-Monitor. Once the dust had settled, and the entire landscape of the DC universe had changed, Earth-6 was retconned to have never existed. Despite that, Lady Quark’s memories and emotional ties remained and would go on to spur some of her actions in later storylines. In the immediate aftermath of Crisis on Infinite Earths, however, Lady Quark resigned herself to her new home. Alongside Pariah and Harbinger, she set out to explore the Earth she had helped bring into existence.

A number of things that Lady Quark experienced and suffered have already come to pass via other characters. Pariah has already made a last-second save of multiple heroes. Equally, Supergirl watched some family members decimated and then lost her entire world. The Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 cliffhanger also saw Supergirl as one of the few characters left alive. Dubbed the Paragon of Hope, Supergirl and the other six survivors were then spotted traveling to the dawn of time in the trailer for the next Crisis on Infinite Earths episode. As such, it could be that Supergirl will take on Lady Quark’s role – whether they somehow restore her Earth or she ends up relocating to Earth-1 when the saga concludes.

Then again, there are still two more installments left to go. Regarding those remaining chapters, the showrunner confirmed that there are plenty of surprises and at least six unannounced characters lined up. Therefore there is always a chance that Lady Quark could still emerge to play a part. After all, the possibility of a team-up between Pariah, Harbinger, and Lady Quark does feel too good an opportunity to let pass. Whatever happens, however, fans will no doubt remain eager for Crisis on Infinite Earths to continue…and to see what shape the Arrowverse will be in when all is said and done.
