Cultivator Manga Combines My Hero Academia With OnePunch Man

The protagonist of the superhero manga Cultivator Against Hero Society possesses an insane amount of power that makes him literally invincible, much like One-Punch Man’s Saitama, and teaches at the same type of school as seen in My Hero Academia.

Written by Ruohong culture, Cultivator revolves around a powerful deity named Yan Sen who mysteriously appears on Earth before later pursuing a teaching license so he can rebuild his ancient sect. Much like Saitama of One-Punch Man, Yan Sen achieves immeasurable powers through constant training, except Sen’s method utilizes the cultivation of spirit energy. However, while Saitama is just a mere mortal, Sen has enough power to become an Emperor Deity and reign over all immortals. His power is so ridiculous that he can defeat anyone with one punch if he so chooses, like Saitama. In fact, he easily beats some of Earth’s most powerful heroes, including Plasticman, Machoman, and Steel Beetle, without even breaking a sweat. If he chose to, Sen could summon 99,999 150-kilometer-wide thunder blasts in six seconds that can each burn up to 37 million acres of land. Suffice it to say, his power levels are off the charts.

What separates Saitama from Sen, however, is what draws a comparison between Cultivator Against Hero Society and another famous manga, My Hero Academia, especially the portion of the latter series that takes place at U.A. High. Unlike Saitama, who just wants to find an enemy who he has to punch more than once to beat, Sen’s number-one goal is to rebuild his sect that was destroyed eons ago. After his confrontations with various heroes, he soon learns there’s a Hero Academy of powered individuals that he can teach, mold, and use to rebuild his sect.

The MHA professor Sen emulates most is All Might, since My Hero Academia begins with the latter hero teaching for the first time at U.A. High, much like Sen is just starting out. But that’s where their similarities end. All Might strives to become like all the other professors at U.A. and to maintain the status quo, which is made evident when he reads from scripts while answering students’ questions. Meanwhile, Sen adopts a completely different curriculum at the Hero Academy, since his goal is to create the next generation of his personal sect of Cultivators; not mold Earth’s newest heroes, as is the academy’s stated mission. Even though All Might is one of Japan’s most powerful and iconic superheroes, he’s still a mortal who is bound by his world’s rules and regulations. Conversely, Sen is a foreigner in an alien world who doesn’t care how his actions will impact Earth.

Outside the classroom, Sen might be incredibly more powerful than One-Punch Man’s Saitama, and there is infinitely more energy that Sen can accrue in Cultivator Against Hero Society. Meanwhile, Saitama has achieved the highest state that any human can obtain, so there’s no way for him to improve. At the same time, Sen’s happiness and sense of accomplishment rely solely on his ability to train others, like the professors in My Hero Academia, though for starkly different reasons. All these similarities and contrasts make for an interesting dynamic between the three separate stories.
