After players unlock the Island Designer app on their NookPhone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can purchase the option to create pathways via the Nook Stop. While there are many pre-made pathway designs that the player can purchase, they can also buy the option to create pathways with custom designs.
Players can download custom patterns created by other players via the kiosk in the back of the Able Sisters tailor shop. An internet connection and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership are required to access this features.
Paths
These patterns can be used via the Island Designer app to pave out players’ islands. They can also be simply laid out on the island’s ground if players don’t have the Island Designer App yet. For paths that include left and right parts to them, they are meant to be laid out, so the left and right parts aren’t meant to be used via the Island Designer app.
Add-Ons
When laid out on the ground, patterns can be used to give subtle enhancements to players’ islands. They can be placed on the ground to recreate pictures, add non-weed clovers, or add other details. Here are some patterns that can enhance other pathways or add details.
In order to unlock the Island Designer App, players must first unlock K.K. Slider. After he is unlocked and the credits play out, Tom Nook will give players access to the app.
Once unlocked, the feature many Animal Crossing: New Horizons players looked forward to becomes available to them: terraforming the island. Of course, the other feature available is the ability to directly carve paths into the ground.
Many players have used their patterns and terraforming abilities to recreate various locations, such as Hyrule. With these features, players can truly create the exact kind of island they want, from a tropical getaway to a suburban town. As time goes on, there’s sure to be more gorgeous patterns to be shared with players all around the world.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
