Cyberpunk 2077s Metro Finally Added To the Game Thanks To Modders

Some talented and dedicated Cyberpunk 2077 modders just added a fully functional elevated metro system to the game. This is just one of many complex and interesting mods for the 2020 release, sitting alongside others like the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a video game fraught with problems and negative PR. While much of the game’s controversial critical reception can be attributed to things like performance on consoles (especially PS4 and Xbox One), many players continue to bemoan the lack of in-game features that were promised leading up to launch. Developer CD Projekt Red initially touted a broad assortment of unique additions, including the ability to customize your vehicles, wall run, and much more. However, CD Projekt Red would go on to announce the discontinuation of these features later in the game’s development. Although not specifically promised, many players believed that a monorail system would be present in the game due to its prevalence in promotional materials leading up to release. Some of these promised features might eventually be added following Cyberpunk’s next-gen release next year, but they are nowhere to be found for now.

However, when it comes to the monorail system, PC players might not have to wait for CD Projekt Red to release an official update. As reported by PC Gamer, a group of modders was able to add a fully realized and interlocking metro system to the game. With the mod, players can hop into one of the rail cars and control it from either a third or first-person perspective, just like with the game’s other vehicles. Players can also switch seats on the fly, which makes the mod a bit more immersive than it already is.

For many gamers, Cyberpunk 2077 was let down by, among many other things, its buggy and shallow world design. This is something that many players were reminded of with the advanced city from the recent Matrix Awakens tech demo. While few would argue that this mod completely reshapes Cyberpunk 2077, it certainly enhances the experience of exploring Night City, which is still breathtaking from a visual standpoint.

As previously mentioned, CD Projekt Red never explicitly promised that there would be a metro system in Cyberpunk 2077, so anger surrounding this exclusion is not as intense as it could be. However, leaving out the monorail is indicative of a larger problem: CD Projekt Red bit off far more than they could chew during development. Hopefully, Cyberpunk 2077 can turn into something closer to what was promised years ago, perhaps even with an official metro system.
