Daredevil In Marvels SpiderMan 2 Would Match MCU Rumors

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is heavily rumored to feature in the upcoming MCU film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it would make perfect sense for the character to also show up in Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 video game for the PlayStation 5. Spider-Man and Daredevil’s long-running partnership in Marvel Comics was already referenced in the first Marvel’s Spider-Man, with a collectible backpack revealing that Peter Parker had met Matthew Murdock before the events of the game. The offices of Nelson & Murdock were also included in Insomniac’s depiction of New York City as one of the game’s secret landmarks, raising the idea that the character could eventually make a physical appearance in a future Spider-Man sequel, maybe as soon as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Not much is known about the sequel other than that it’ll feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as playable characters, and that Venom and what appears to be Kraven the Hunter will feature as villains. Insomniac has promised that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be darker than the previous entry, which opens the door up to darker characters from the Marvel universe to potentially make an appearance – and Daredevil is an obvious choice. Daredevil and Spider-Man have a long history of team-ups in Marvel’s comics, and with rumors swirling that Charlie Cox could be set to reprise his role as Daredevil from the Netflix series in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, now would be the perfect time for The Man Without Fear to make his PS5 debut.

Insomniac established a Marvel universe that went beyond just the web-slinger in Marvel’s Spider-Man, confirming the existence of iconic Marvel heroes Doctor Strange, Captain America, and Black Panther through backpack Easter eggs and in-game landmarks. With the announcement that Insomniac is also working on Marvel’s Wolverine, it looks as though the studio is building on the references introduced in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales and laying the foundations for its own Marvel Gaming Universe. Such a universe would mean more physical appearances from other Marvel heroes and villains, with Daredevil a strong candidate, owing to his strong comics links to Spider-Man and the city of New York.

Marvel’s Daredevil Deserves A Spotlight In Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 Game

Matt Murdock has acted as a mentor to Peter Parker in the comics, at one point having to step in so that Peter didn’t give in to his darker impulses when Jean DeWolff was murdered by the Sin-Eater. Given Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could involve Peter donning the Venom symbiote – a process that led to Peter becoming violent and unstable in the comics – it’s easy to see how Daredevil could take on a similar role in the sequel, providing a calming influence to walk Spider-Man back from the darkness. Insomniac’s Marvel video games are completely disconnected from the comics or the MCU, but the possible reemergence of Cox’s Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home could precipitate the character having a role in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Although very much an iconic and beloved superhero in Marvel Comics, Matt Murdock has never boasted as great a level of popularity as Spider-Man, Wolverine, or the rest of the X-Men, possessing fewer video game appearances and live-action efforts than either character. That said, the Netflix Daredevil series did illustrate The Man Without Fear could capture a wider audience, and if the character is set for a role in No Way Home, that could increase his chances of appearing in Insomniac’s next AAA Marvel title, just as the success of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films inspired the upcoming Square Enix video game.

A potential Daredevil appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isn’t dependant on whether or not the character shows up in No Way Home or the MCU, of course. Matt Murdock may not have led as many video games as Spider-Man, but he has appeared in plenty of them, with three of those appearances coming in titles dedicated to the wall-crawler. Insomniac could continue that tradition in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and bless the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen with a rare opportunity to fight alongside his ally in a video game.
