Daredevil’s Kingpin actor, Vincent D’Onofrio, shares his excitement for Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye on Disney+. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next live-action series as part of Phase Four, Hawkeye, will see the return of Jeremy Renner as its titular Avenger alongside Hailee Steinfeld’s newcomer, Kate Bishop—who appears poised to inherit the former’s mantle. Loosely based on Matt Fraction and David Aja’s My Life As a Weapon (2013), the series will follow the pair as they fight crime in the streets of New York City during the holiday season.

Long before the MCU made its way to Disney+, Marvel’s “Street-Level Heroes” defended New York on Netflix. The shows included Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and, of course, Daredevil. In addition to its multiversal theme, Phase Four of the MCU concerns itself with the potential incorporation of Marvel characters previously unavailable to the studio. For example, Disney’s 2019 acquisition of Fox brought the X-Men and Fantastic Four under the control of Marvel Studios and, last year, Netflix’s Marvel contract ended—which has left fans to wonder if characters like Daredevil and his associates will be introduced to the MCU.

Recently, Vincent D’Onofrio took to Twitter to share his excitement for Hawkeye by re-tweeting a TV spot for the series. The actor’s tongue-in-cheek post mentions his “love” for “these Marvel series.” D’ Onofrio, of course, played a pivotal role in one of the mosts beloved Marvel shows of all time and is rumored to appear in Hawkeye. D’Onofrio debuted as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin opposite Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the eponymous series. Not only did both actors prove a great on-screen match, but both turned in definitive portrayals of their respective characters. All three seasons of Daredevil were acclaimed with its third season wrapping up its primary plot lines before the end of Marvel and Netflix’s partnership. Fans have been campaigning for a revival of the series ever since, while rumors persist suggesting Marvel Studios may bring its characters into the MCU. Word has it, Murdock may provide legal aid to Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Meanwhile, given his connections to many of Hawkeye’s characters, Fisk is rumored to be featured in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Whether it be Loki’s branching timelines or Black Widow’s post-credits scene, which set up Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) to appear in Hawkeye, Phase Four of the MCU continues to look towards the future. Having Cox and D’Onofrio cameo in upcoming Marvel projects would be a great way to reintroduce them and prepare audiences for a Daredevil revival. D’Onofrio is well aware of the aforementioned rumors and the fandom’s desire to see all of this happen. That being said, he’s probably teasing fans and, like the rest of us, is just excited for another Marvel series. Or, he could be low-key promoting his first foray into the MCU.
