A terrifying Dark Souls cosplay has transformed a talented fan into one of the game’s imposing Black Knights. FromSoftware’s action role-playing game defined the “soulslike” genre back in 2011, with its unique mixture of unforgiving difficulty and fascinating fantasy world. Known for their memorable characters that brighten up truly dystopian worlds, cosplay of FromSoftware games like Bloodborne has become quite popular within the developer’s fandom.

While the world of Dark Souls is quite bleak, a beloved cast of supporting characters help to keep players going when faced with even the toughest challenge. The game’s setting of Lordran has been completely ravaged by an undead curse, which slowly drives inhabitants mad as they are faced with increasingly desperate circumstances. Friendly faces met along the way, such as the blacksmith Andre of Astora or the jolly Siegmeyer of Catarina, are small beacons of hope and aid as players journey through the dungeons and castles of Lordran. Many tributes have been made to the game’s supporting cast of NPCs, with a Dark Souls Solaire watch created in honor of perhaps the title’s sunniest and most recognizable ally.

Reddit user KeNnY1337TV has transformed themselves into a Black Knight, a powerful enemy who threatens players early in Dark Souls. The imposing mini-boss is notoriously difficult to defeat compared to the early areas they appear in, effectively making them gates that only particularly skilled or well-leveled players can pass. The Black Knight’s distinctive armor was once silver, according to lore, but a battle against Chaos Demons charred them all into their current form. KeNnY1337TV perfectly recreates the memorable foe’s armor, complete with a pointed shield and massive Greataxe for battle. The stylish suit reportedly took nine months to build, and this monumental task is reflected in the authenticity and beauty of the end result.

While the Dark Souls series may seem fairly niche, due to its difficulty and fantasy setting, the trilogy has become quite notorious amongst the gaming community and popular culture at large. This has become particularly evident within the world of sports, as the L.A. Chargers’ Joey Bosa mentioned Dark Souls on a microphone during a recent NFL game. During a casual conversation on the sidelines, Bosa mentioned FromSoftware titles such as Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, along with the mythological action game God of War. The Chargers’ outside linebacker also references the series’ famous “Praise the sun!” phrase in the video, demonstrating his love for challenges on and off the field.

Demonstrating their own love for both Dark Souls and awesome armor, KeNnY1337TV’s Black Knight cosplay is truly a sight to behold. The unmistakable black armor brings back memories of countless deaths in the Undead Burg and Parish, and the massive Greataxe makes the cosplay even more imposing. With the powerful foe’s armor taking nine whole months to recreate, this Black Knight cosplay should strike fear and awe into any Dark Souls player who sees it.
