There have been many terrifying threats to the DC Universe over the years. From magical threats of demons and monsters terrorizing the world to galactic warlords who seek universal dominance or just clowns taking lives for some sick and twisted joke. Yet some of the most terrifying threats to face the heroes of the DC Universe have been immortal beings.

Yes, entities that have found one way or another to achieve immortality, unable to pass on by natural means. That kind of power can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Let’s look at the most powerful villains of the DC Universe with immorality.

Updated on September 29th, 2020, by Richard Keller: Immortality has its perks. Those who can’t die learn from their mistakes. Unfortunately, when it comes to the immortal villains of the DC universe, it means they have an easier time conquering Earth. Here are a few more examples of these indecent immortals.

16 Time Trapper

The Time Trapper has been a thorn in the side of the Legion of Super-Heroes for decades. When they think this nemesis has been defeated, he returns to bother them again in one form or another.

The identity of this time manipulator has changed depending on the Legion incarnation. In 1977, the Time Trapper was revealed to be a member of an alien race called the Controllers. During the Five Years Later saga, it turned out to be Rokk Krinn, known as Cosmic Boy. One of the last incarnations of the Time Trapper was Superboy-Prime.

15 Solomon Grundy

DC Comics 15 Most Powerful Immortal Villains In DC Comics

The immortal villain who is born on a Monday and dies on a Saturday has battled dozens of DC superheroes since his 1944 introduction. He has been a regular malefactor of both the Justice Society and Justice League. Each time he’s defeated and put back in the ground, Grundy seems to return.

What the heroes have yet to determine Grundy’s real identity. Sometimes, he comes back as someone with a child-like mentality. In other moments he has advanced intelligence. It’s frustrating to members of the JLA and JSA.

14 Black Adam

DC Comics 15 Most Powerful Immortal Villains In DC Comics

Teth-Adam can be killed if his host body is destroyed. It’s similar to what could happen if Billy Batson is mortally wounded before he becomes Shazam. Remove this technicality, and Black Adam is immortal.

In fact, he’s been around since the height of Egypt and the pharaohs. There’s a good chance he battled Hawkman and Hawkgirl in one of their incarnations, even though he’s Shazam’s arch-nemesis. He continues to be someone of interest in the DC universe.

13 Emerald Eye of Ekron

DC Comics 15 Most Powerful Immortal Villains In DC Comics

The Emerald Eye of Ekron might not be familiar to readers. However, its owner probably is. Or, rather, the Eye’s human contact — the Emerald Empress.

Though this Legion of Super-Heroes villain was the same person for years, the Eye can choose who it wants. During the run of L.E.G.I.O.N, it bonded to galactic police officer Garryn Bek. In the 2009 Legion of Super-Heroes run, the Eye chose another person to take the role of Empress. It will eventually find someone else to take its commands.

He went on to rule and conquer worlds during his childhood, and he has said that he has always existed since he created his own universe, with his physical form taking shape 1,000 years before the DC Universe’s present day.

She has since gone on to become her father’s loyal servant, caring for him while he returned to life slowly in the body of a child after his supposed demise and prophesied to cause great destruction in service of Darkseid by an oracle known as Menalippe.

As shown in the event, the World Forge was a place where new worlds and universes were born, and the Forger had a massive dragon whom he used to destroy unstable worlds known as Barbatos.

Knowing only death and destruction, Barbatos slew his master and watched as the World Forge grew dark, leaving the Dark Multiverse to grow unchecked. He lead the invasion of the Dark Multiverse, and also has a loose connection to Batman and the Wayne family altogether.

4 Doomsday

One of the most powerful and unstoppable immortal beings in the universe is Doomsday, the monster who is notoriously known for taking Superman’s life. A science experiment that was destroyed over and over again in harsh environments until it was perfected into a killing machine, the monster escaped it’s prison and has caused galactic wide terror in its wake.

Arriving on Earth, Doomsday fought the Justice League until only Superman stood against it. The Man of Steel fought the monster with everything in his body, until both fell in battle against one another. However, like Superman, it has come back and grows stronger with each defeat.

3 Darkseid

One of the most powerful and well-known villains of the DC Universe is Darkseid, the dark god of the New Gods. The dictator and ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid has been a foe to both Superman and the Justice League over the years and has fought a never-ending war with his brother and foe, Highfather of the New Gods.

His most powerful weapon is his Omega Beams, a laser-vision like power that allows him to end most lifeforms save for Superman or Doomsday, and also to resurrect others as well. He is truly immortal, but has been taken out several times, only to be resurrected later on.

2 Anti-Monitor

DC Comics 15 Most Powerful Immortal Villains In DC Comics

Formed out of the multiverse itself, the Anti-Monitor is one of the most powerful immortals in the multiverse as a whole. Created by the Over-Monitor, the Anti-Monitor is one half of a probe sent by his creator to study the life energy and life forms of the multiverse, with the other half being the Monitor.

Unlike his “brother”, the Anti-Monitor is not human in appearance, instead looking like a monster with eyes that are devoid of life and a sinister grin that appears to others like a mash of teeth. He is the collection of negative energy and evil that the multiverse houses.

1 Perpetua

The most powerful being in not only the multiverse, but the known Omniverse, is the immortal being Perpetua. Recently introduced in DC Comics as the mother of beings like the Monitor and Mobius, Perpetua was sent by the Judges of the Source to create new multiverses to team with life.

Known as one of several Super Celestials, Perpetua tried to stop the Judges by using a weapon made of the multiverse itself, but was stopped by her sons and was subsequently sealed into the Source Wall. When the Source Wall broke during the invasion of the Dark Multiverse, Lex Luthor freed her, unleashing her on the multiverse again.
