DC’s New Flash will Join Wally West’s Flash Family

In DC’s Infinite Frontier #0, Wally West becomes the Flash of Central City and in upcoming issues of his series, he will be joined by Future State’s new Flash, Jess Chambers. Barry Allen is the definitive Flash to many fans, but he isn’t the only one as the Flash Family of speedsters is extensive. Barry is just one of the many who have donned the mantle. Chambers, DC’s new Flash from the future, is the fifth speedster to become the Flash. DC Comics recently announced that Jess would continue their journey into Joshua Williamson’s post-Infinite Frontier issues of The Flash.

It’s revealed in “The Flash” portion of Infinite Frontier #0 that Barry Allen will pass on the mantle of the Flash to Wally West. This comes after President Superman offers Barry the opportunity to become Earth’s representative for the Justice Incarnate. Essentially, Barry will become the Flash of the Omniverse. Leaving Central City Flash-less would be a huge risk, so Barry takes it upon himself to anoint Wally as the new Flash.

The Flash’s upcoming issues will branch out from the events of Infinite Frontier’s “The Flash” segment by Joshua Williamson, Howard Porter, and Hi-Fi, with Wally being the new team leader of the Flash Family. With Jess set to return, they will be joining Wally West’s Flash Family roster of speedsters. How Jess will show up in the main timeline remains to be seen, but DC has confirmed that it will be a past version of Jess. Going by the name Kid Quick, as they were introduced as in DC’s Very Merry Multiverse last December.

They are the first non-binary speedster and the first major genderfluid member of the Justice League. Jess’ origins as Kid Quick was teased in Future State but were never revealed. It was teased that they arrive at Earth-0 from their Earth to unveil a huge conspiracy that threatened the Justice League. After the crisis, they stayed behind and eventually took on the mantle of the Flash. They will be taking center stage with the likes of Wally West in Jeremy Adams & Brandon Peterson’s upcoming issues with a destiny of becoming the main, new Flash in the future. Jess’ origins are likely to be explored, possibly leading to the crisis which was teased in Future State: Justice League #1. Before that happens, Barry and Wally will star in The Flash #768, Williamson’s last issue on the series.

Jess Chambers’ destiny will be written in the pages of The Flash, along with Wally becoming the new Flash of Central City, taking on the mantle from Barry. It would seem that both Flash’s are worthy of the mantle and will be crossing paths frequently. Fans will be excited with Wally West taking center stage, playing an important role in not only protecting Central City but training Future State’s Flash and welcoming them into the team. DC’s Infinite Frontier #0, their new relaunch initiative, is in comic book shops and digital platforms now.
