Dead By Daylight provides players with the opportunity to play in two starkly different positions: killer or survivor. While the killers in Dead By Daylight seem to be substantially stronger than survivors at first glance, both killers and survivors are faced with a number of challenges in every trial.

One of the most frustrating difficulties faced by newer killers is simply finding the survivors they are meant to kill. As players slowly level up their favorite killers, there are a number of powerful perks they can equip to make their search for survivors significantly easier.

10 Predator (The Wraith)

Fortunately for newer players, Dead By Daylight includes a number of strong killers in the base game to begin working with immediately. The Wraith, for example, includes ‘Predator’ as one of his teachable perks.

This perk simply increases the frequency of scratch marks left behind by sprinting survivors. While this perk may not be the strongest hunting perk for experienced killers, Predator is incredibly helpful for newer killers who may still struggle to follow the scratch mark patterns leading to their prey.

9 Overcharge (The Doctor)

‘Overcharge’ is an interesting teachable perk unique to The Doctor. Overcharge is an incredibly useful tool for killers aiming to patrol areas with high generator activity. Seeing as survivors mainly succeed in their trials by repairing generators, a killer who is able to identify important generators should be able to find survivors.

If a killer equips Overcharge prior to entering a trial, kicked generators will become ‘overcharged.’ The next survivor to touch an overcharged generator will face a very difficult skill check. The increased skill check difficulty increases the likelihood that a survivor will fail and alert the killer to their general location.

8 A Nurse’s Calling (The Nurse)

While experienced killers may not rely on their ability to actually see survivors, there are a few killer perks that do reveal the auras of survivors. One strong example of an aura-reading killer perk is The Nurse’s teachable perk, ‘A Nurse’s Calling.’

A Nurse’s Calling reveals the auras of survivors performing healing actions within a certain distance of the killer. While this perk’s range isn’t particularly impressive, the ability to see the exact location of an injured survivor grants killers an easy way to locate their next victim.

7 Whispers (General)

‘Whispers’ is an essential perk for killers struggling to locate survivors. Unlike a number of other important hunting perks, Whispers is available in every killer’s Blood Web. This is incredibly useful for players who may not have the patience to unlock teachable perks to use on with their favorite killers.

Whispers is fairly easy to use, as the perk’s icon simply lights up while killers are within a certain distance of survivors. The perk’s light also goes out if the killer gets too far away from survivors, signifying that the killer is going the wrong way.

6 Bloodhound (The Wraith)

While Predator is a strong teachable perk for Dead By Daylight players to unlock early on, The Wraith’s next teachable perk, ‘Bloodhound,’ is an even stronger hunting perk for new killers. Bloodhound significantly increases the visibility of the pools of blood left behind by injured survivors and extends the length of time that the blood remains visible on the map.

Of course, the Bloodhound perk is ultimately useless if the killer fails to injure survivors in the first place, but this perk grants killers increased opportunities to find survivors that manage to slip away mid-chase.

5 I’m All Ears (The Ghost Face)

Players are more than capable of becoming top-tier killers without spending any money on Dead By Daylight’s numerous DLC Chapters. However, there are a few strong killer perks unique to licensed killers.

For example, The Ghost Face’s teachable perk, ‘I’m All Ears,’ reveals the auras of survivors who perform rushed actions within 48 meters of the killer. However, this perk doesn’t just reveal survivor auras while they’re performing these actions. Survivor auras will remain revealed to a killer with this perk equipped for six full seconds following the rushed action, giving the killer plenty of time to chase them down.

4 Rancor (The Spirit)

‘Rancor’ can be very useful for killers struggling to find survivors, but also provides a bit of a drawback. Every time a generator is completely repaired, the auras of all survivors are revealed to the killer with this teachable The Spirit perk equipped for three full seconds.

However, a killer with this perk also becomes ‘obsessed’ with one survivor, and the killer’s aura is revealed to the Obsession for a few seconds after the completion of a generator. Rancor does offer a fair trade for this drawback, but the ability to see where survivors are moving to is the best aspect of this perk for killers just learning to hunt.

3 Surveillance (The Pig)

New killers often think that the most effective way to catch survivors is by simply chasing them through the fog. However, experienced Dead By Daylight killers understand that wasting time on a few survivors can lead to the reparation of all five generators at a speed allowing every survivor to escape unscathed.

The Pig’s teachable perk, ‘Surveillance,’ is a great way to find survivors while stalling their generator repairs. With this perk equipped, all regressing generators will be visible to the killer highlighted in white. If survivors interrupt the regression of a generator, that generator will be highlighted in yellow to alert the killer of survivor activity.

2 Barbecue & Chilli (The Cannibal)

‘Barbecue & Chilli’ is an incredibly popular teachable killer perk unlocked by leveling up The Cannibal. The utility of this perk as a hunting perk is obvious, as Barbecue & Chilli reveals the auras of survivors to the killer for four full seconds after hooking a survivor.

Admittedly, survivors’ auras are only revealed to the killer at they are more than 40 meters away from the killer. However, this perk also offers killers the opportunity to increase the number of blood points they earn in a trial, which allows players to earn other teachable perks more quickly.

1 Tinkerer (The Hillbilly)

Much like The Pig’s teachable perk, Surveillance, The Hillbilly’s teachable perk, ‘Tinkerer,’ is perfect for killers who understand the importance of monitoring generators throughout a trial. Tinkerer triggers a ‘loud noise alert’ for killers every time a generator reaches 70% reparation progress.

This is already an obvious advantage, as killers with Tinkerer equipped can immediately locate the survivors working on the nearly-completed generator. However, Tinkerer also grants the killer the ‘Undetectable’ status effect for up to 16 seconds upon activation, making it nearly impossible for survivors to know that the killer is right behind them.
