Dead By Daylight 8 Scariest Maps

While long-time fans of Dead By Daylight may be a bit desensitized to some of the scarier elements of the game, there are a few maps that are sure to spook even the most seasoned survivors.

One of the most important tools survivors have for escaping from killers in Dead By Daylight is the ability to hide. Some maps provide gamers with better hiding places than others, and some maps make it nearly impossible for survivors to stay out of sight. While veteran players may be able to make the most of any map, experienced killers know how to turn any map against survivors, as well.

8 Backwater Swamp: The Pale Rose

Dead By Daylight 8 Scariest Maps

The general atmosphere of Dead By Daylight’s Backwater Swamp Realm is already haunting, regardless of which map players end up on. The murky gray coloring of this realm makes it nearly impossible for players to navigate without a good understanding of the map’s landmarks. On The Pale Rose map, players are forced to orient themselves around the dilapidated paddle steamer in the center of the map.

Unfortunately for survivors, walking too close to the ship sends a flock of birds screaming into the air, alerting the killer to their whereabouts. Even if the birds don’t bring the killer rushing towards The Pale Rose, any survivor brave enough to repair the generator on the ship risks sounding the foghorn which will also alert killers to their location.

7 Red Forest: The Temple of Purgation

Dead By Daylight 8 Scariest Maps

The Temple of Purgation is a map inspired by the Dead By Daylight original killer, The Plague. Set in the Red Forest Realm, The Temple of Purgation features a cold blue and green color palette with constant, misting rain. This map is one of the few ‘outdoor’ maps that are nearly impossible for survivors to clear without spending a large portion of time ‘indoors.’

Survivors are forced to navigate in and out of the crumbling temple in the center of the map, which houses a generator on the bottom floor. The vast, barren temple, which occupies a large portion of this map, frequently exposes Dead By Daylight survivors to whichever killer is pursuing them.

6 Silent Hill: Midwich Elementary School

Dead By Daylight 8 Scariest Maps

Unlike the average outdoor map, survivors may have to spend large portions of games played on split maps like the Midwich Elementary School map in open areas with nowhere to hide. Beyond this, survivors are forced to travel through the map on predictable paths due to a number of barren, lengthy hallways.

Of course, skilled players are able to navigate any map in a way that should allow them to escape from the average killer. However, survivors who manage to strategically utilize the windows and pallets found in the Midwich Elementary School map are still forced to face their fears head-on as they navigate around piles of putrid flesh and blood. The gore found in this map is so unsettling that players may even start to believe that they can smell the filth through their screens.

5 Léry’s Memorial Institute: Treatment Theatre

Dead By Daylight 8 Scariest Maps

The Treatment Theatre map is the only map found in the Léry’s Memorial Institute Realm. However, this map consistently proves to be a challenging course for both killers and survivors due to the labyrinthine nature of its layout.

While players will always find one generator in the treatment room in the middle of the map, the rooms forming the layer between the outer hallways and the inner room are notoriously difficult to navigate. Players with experience in this maze may be able to make use of a few recurring window layouts, but just one wrong turn can lead survivors to become so lost that there is virtually no way for them to escape from a determined killer.

4 Crotus Prenn Asylum: Father Campbell’s Chapel

Dead By Daylight 8 Scariest Maps

Players with a fear of clowns are sure to balk at the sight of The Clown’s Caravan situated on the Father Campbell’s Chapel map. While this map features the unsettling atmosphere of the Crotus Prenn Asylum Realm as a whole, The Clown’s miniature circus is one of the most defining features of this map.

Unsurprisingly, the Father Campbell’s Chapel is the most obvious landmark for players to orient themselves on this map, but players will often find a generator and a chest or totem in The Clown’s Caravan. Therefore, a trip through this eerily abandoned circus is inevitable. Players may find some initial comfort in the whinnying of Maurice, The Clown’s horse, but will quickly realize that Maurice is so mutated and decayed that he really shouldn’t be able to whinny anymore.

3 Gideon Meat Plant: The Game

Dead By Daylight 8 Scariest Maps

Naturally, players who have seen any films from the Saw franchise will recognize a number of easter eggs throughout The Game map to remind them of the vicious ‘games’ played throughout the series. However, players do not need to be particularly familiar with this horror franchise to feel a fair amount of fear and revulsion while traversing through the repurposed meat plant.

If survivors manage to forget about all of the blood, broken mannequins, and twisted corpses littered throughout The Game, the layout of this map can still create serious suspense for even seasoned survivors. Every generator in this map is used to power a sliding metal door. This can be very helpful for survivors trying to locate generators early on, but these doors also effectively trap survivors if they are found while working on the generators.

2 Autohaven Wreckers: Gas Heaven

Dead By Daylight 8 Scariest Maps

Generally speaking, the entirety of Dead By Daylight’s Autohaven Wreckers Realm has a very somber atmosphere. On any of the Autohaven Wreckers Realm’s five maps, players will be forced to navigate miniature mazes of wrecked cars and a darkness so thick that it becomes difficult to see much of anything.

However, the Autohaven Wreckers Realm’s Gas Heaven map, in particular, poses a similar danger to the Gideon Meat Plant Realm’s The Game map. One generator is always located in the Gas Station’s garage, which features only one exit. If survivors wish to repair this generator and open the garage to create more options for looping through the Gas Station, they must first hope that the killer doesn’t find them before they can get the job done.

1 Coldwind Farm: Rotten Fields

While new players may assume that the maps featured in Dead By Daylight’s Coldwind Farm Realm are less alarming than other maps due to the comparative brightness of their surroundings, it is impossible to forget that players are meant to be ‘dead by daylight,’ and the Coldwind Farm Realm exists in a perpetual state of dawn.

Therefore, survivors who find themselves in this Realm may be on higher alert than they would be in one of the game’s darker Realms. The Rotten Fields map presents a particularly unique challenge for survivors and killers alike, as there are no significant landmarks for players to orient themselves around. This map’s sunny atmosphere only serves to enhance the sinister nature of the vast corn maze.
