Deadpool 3 Zazie Beetz Doesnt Know If Domino Will Return

Zazie Beetz hasn’t heard if she’ll be back as Domino in Deadpool 3. The incredible success of Deadpool in 2016 gave 20th Century Fox the confidence to go a step further with the sequel. Deadpool 2 brought Ryan Reynolds back as the Merc with a Mouth, but it also introduced two major characters from the comics: the time-traveling mutant Cable (Josh Brolin) and the luckiest mutant Domino, played by Zazie Beetz. Both characters were huge hits with audiences and were expected to be part of the franchise’s future.

The outlook of the Deadpool franchise changed shortly thereafter, though, when Disney acquired Fox. This business deal resulted in the rights to Deadpool and his ancillary characters reverting to Marvel Studios. Fans worried that Deadpool 3 wouldn’t happen as a result, or that it would be watered down to a PG-13 rating if it did happen. Thankfully, Kevin Feige confirmed Deadpool 3 is happening and that it will be R-rated. This also came with the confirmation that the sequel will be set in the MCU, leaving many to wonder what that means for other characters.

While Deadpool jumping to the MCU can work with his tendency to break the fourth wall, it is unclear if his supporting cast will follow him to a new cinematic universe. Collider recently spoke to Zazie Beetz, and the outlet asked her about the possibility of Domino returning in Deadpool 3. Beetz says that the original plan for the franchise was for Domino to return. She has yet to hear from Kevin Feige or anyone at Marvel Studios about coming back, but she is unsurprisingly interested in doing so.

No, I haven’t [heard about Domino’s return]. I would love to revive the role. That was always in the world of what was potentially going to happen. I haven’t had any specific conversations around it. But I’m interested. Not only would I love to revive the role, I would love to figure out a way to make a Domino movie or something like that. We’ll see what happens, but I haven’t had any personal conversations.

Beetz’s answer is not too surprising on a few levels. Deadpool 3 only hired writers a few months ago with Bob’s Burgers scribes Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin. According to Kevin Feige, the movie is still a few years away from filming, so they might not even know if Domino is part of the movie yet. Marvel Studios is also notorious for its secrecy, so Beetz might not be allowed to say if she’s returning, even if a deal is secretly in place already.

If we take Beetz at her word that she hasn’t heard from Marvel Studios about returning for Deadpool 3, hopefully that will change soon. Her introduction in Deadpool 2 was meant to be the beginning of her time with the franchise as Beetz signed a three-movie deal at the time. While that deal might be voided due to the Disney acquisition of Fox, Domino was expected to be seen again in X-Force and Deadpool 3. There were even fans hoping Domino could get a solo movie. Beetz is great in the role and fits in well with the franchise, so Marvel Studios should look for a way to keep her around. And now that Beetz confirmed she’s willing to return, hopefully Domino is in Deadpool 3 at the end of the day.
