Deadpool Claims Captain America is Racist (Towards Monsters)

Forget contract killing, Deadpool is off and running in a new comic book series that is tossing aside his job as a mercenary job, and giving him his very own crown. But can the King of Monsters stand idly by as his former hero, Captain America, reveals his bigotry towards innocent monsters?

There may be some explanation needed there, since even for a Deadpool book, Kelly Thompson and Chris Bachalo’s new series is embracing the absurdity. The first issue provided the premise, with monsters taking over Staten Island thanks to a centuries-old real estate claim. Enter a mysterious benefactor offering Wade Wilson a fortune to slay their king, and off he went. But when the monsters then made him their new leader, Deadpool couldn’t resist. But it was only a matter of time until a hero or two came to talk him out of it.

The prior issue put Deadpool up against Elsa Bloodstone, but the monsters themselves have proven to show true potential as Wade’s new support system. So that makes it all the more heartbreaking for Wade to witness the arrival of Captain America, pleading for him to see reason. To take the smart path, and the best course of action to spare innocent human lives. Oh, and monsters, too. Sure. Take a look:

We’ll leave it to the readers to decide if Deadpool is overreacting, or truly highlighting one area where an old-fashioned soldier like Steve Rogers possesses a blind spot. It should also be noted that things have been tense between Deadpool and Captain America ever since Secret Empire. Having Captain America order the death of Phil Coulson will do that. So Wade is undeniably sour, having once been a devout believer in Steve Rogers. A slip up here, years of condescension there, and it’s no wonder Deadpool has chosen to side with the forgotten, the ostracized, and the reviled. But will Steve Rogers help Wade see reason, or manage to prove they really are on the same side? Fans will have to wait for the full issue to know for sure!
