Deathloops Best Weapons & Rarities Explained

As far as first-person shooters go, Deathloop has a relatively low number of weapons. Instead, the game adds variety to Colt’s loadout by introducing weapon rarities and some key roguelike elements to provide a sense of progression in arsenal building. This system results in some unique and powerful weapons often carried by the eight Visionaries or found through other, intricate side tasks.

There’s no shortage of firearms on Blackreef Island, even though Deathloop can be beaten without either; the small-time, patrolling Eternalists all carry either some sort of gun or a machete. Weapons dropped from common enemies will be just that – common. Guns picked up from dispatched baddies usually fall relatively low on Deathloop’s weapon rarity scale. Each gun in the game has a corresponding color, which indicates its rarity. The four categories of weapon rarity are: Crude (gray), Sleek (blue), Exemplar (purple), and Unique (gold/orange).

For the most part, weapon rarity corresponds to the number of slots available for Deathloop’s Weapon Trinkets. Crude weapons can be equipped with one Trinket and are prone to jamming. Moving up to Sleek gives a weapon that’s more reliably functional and can hold two Trinkets. Both Exemplar and Unique weapons hold three Trinkets, jam rarely, and also come with an innate perk. The main difference between the two highest rarity tiers is that Unique weapons have – as the tier name would imply – unique appearances and names. There are only four Unique weapons in Deathloop, and it should be noted that each can be dropped by rival assassin Julianna Blake, though her loadout changes with each Invasion.

For the first few loops on Blackreef, players won’t wind up with much more than Sleek weaponry, and even if an Exemplar weapon is found, it might be a better idea to use the collected Residuum on a Slab instead. However, it won’t take long before the routines of Deathloop’s eight Visionaries start to be revealed, and Colt’s arsenal begins to grow. At a certain point, Exemplar and Unique weapons are the only categories worth using, since their effectiveness can be greatly tweaked through Trinkets, and their special perks are often incredibly helpful.

Deathloop’s Best Weapons – Exemplar Visionary Guns

Deathloops Best Weapons & Rarities Explained

A good way to start building up Colt’s arsenal is to hunt down the Visionaries. Deathloop pushes players toward these objectives early, as it emphasizes the collection of Slabs, but most Visionaries will also be carrying a powerful gun. For the most part, Visionaries carry Exemplar weapons that are the best in their respective classes. If players develop an affinity for a certain kind of common gun type – PT-6 ‘Spiker,’ Tribunàl, The Fourpounder, LIMP-10, Strelak 50-50, Vopat Trencher, MG-1 ‘Pepper Mill,’ or Rapiér – it’s likely that a Visionary will be carrying one of the best versions of it.

Deathloop’s Best Weapons – Hidden Exemplar Guns

Deathloops Best Weapons & Rarities Explained

Although they’re fairly rare, it’s possible to find Exemplar weapons around Blackreef that don’t belong to a Visionary. These will often be hidden in out-of-the-way locations, or require players to solve a puzzle or finish a side activity in order to obtain them. It’s possible to find Exemplar weapons with the same perks as those carried by the Visionaries, but there’s a wide range of special attributes that might come equipped on one. Some perks, such as Snare and Open Wounds, can be found on multiple guns, but others will only appear on a specific model. Notable exclusive perks include Echolocation for the PT-6 ‘Spiker’ and Silver Bullet for the Rapiér.

The PT-6 is already incredibly useful for stealth, especially when combined with Deathloop’s valuable Shift Slab, and the Echolocation attribute will only increase its usefulness. With Echolocation, the nails fired from the PT-6 will tag enemies around the impact area. Since the PT-6 is the game’s most common silenced weapon, this gives Colt get an even greater advantage when sneaking.

When using a Rapiér, Silver Bullet rewards players with good aim, and is also useful when carrying another high caliber weapon. Silver Bullet won’t spend ammunition as long as players don’t miss, and the Rapiér is generally a one-shot kill. The caveat to Silver Bullet, however, is missing even a single shot results in the Rapiér becoming unusable for the rest of the mission.

Deathloop’s Best Weapons – Constancy Automatic

Frank Spicer is the only Visionary who carries a Unique weapon, meaning he’ll have to be killed in order to unlock Deathloop’s Constancy Automatic. Spicer has forgone the opportunity to have his own Slab, so he is likely compensating by being the only Visionary with a gun higher than Exemplar rarity. Spicer’s lack of a Slab is also what makes it difficult to acquire the Constancy Automatic, since anyone entering his club in Fristad Rock will need a Class Pass, which disables the use of Slabs. Following the Arsenal Lead, “All Night Long” will bring players to the Constancy Automatic.

The two-handed SMG lets players reload while shooting by having a two-magazine design. The Constancy Automatic can also come with the following perks:

Deathloop’s Best Weapons – Heritage Gun

Though Charlie Montague doesn’t carry the Heritage Gun himself, it is a reward for completing one of his elaborate games in Karl’s Bay. Montague’s Fathoms of Lament experience is only accessible in the evening, and players will have to brave its numerous traps in order to unlock the Heritage Gun. Montague fancies himself a legendary game designer, and his creations often end in death, with Fathoms of Lament not being an outlier. The game will take players all over Karl’s Bay looking for potentially trapped boxes before one final puzzle leads to the Heritage Gun. The Arsenal Lead, “Super Shifty” will help players find the Heritage Gun.

This Unique gun acts as both a shotgun and a rifle, letting players switch between accurate slugs and buckshot spread. The following perks may appear on the Heritage Gun:

Deathloop’s Best Weapons – Sepulchra Breteira

Deathloops Best Weapons & Rarities Explained

The Sepulchra Breteira is the only sniper rifle in Deathloop. Eavesdropping on Eternalists in Updaam might trigger the “Keep On Giving” Arsenal Lead, which will help players get the Sepulchra Breteira. There’s an opportunity to unlock the powerful sniper rifle early in the game when Colt goes to his apartment in Updaam. Players can overhear that a gift has been left for Colt, and when he goes to investigate, he is ambushed by a sniper from the window of a nearby bakery. All players have to do is eliminate their assailant and claim the Sepulchra Breteira.

The only unique quality the Sepulchra Breteira has is its scope, making it the only scoped weapon in Deathloop. The Unique sniper rifle can come with the following perks:

Deathloop’s Best Weapons – Strelak Verso

Players will have to rob Blackreef’s weapons depot in order to acquire Deathloop’s final Unique gun, the Strelak Verso. Getting it will complete the “In This Together” Arsenal Lead, which has to be completed at noon in The Complex. Eternalists will be trying to blast their way into the weapons depot, but players will have to find four batteries in order to open a door to the Strelak Verso.

The Strelak Verso is another weapon that has two firing modes like the Heritage Gun – it can either be used as dual-wielded pistols or be transformed into a burst fire SMG. It can be found with the following perks:

Deathloop is absolutely littered with weapons, but some of the best in the game require a bit of work. Assassinating some of the Visionaries is a good way to quickly expand Colt’s arsenal, but some sleuthing will reward players with more Exemplar guns and the four Unique weapons.
