Thanks to DC Comics’ new solicitations for September, it’s been revealed that Slade Wilson’s Deathstroke will soon be getting an all-new series entitled Deathstroke Inc., a clear sign that the assassin will be copying one of Batman’s best ideas with Batman Incorporated. Apparently, Deathstroke will be working with a global organization and recruiting a team of mercs to take down some of the biggest DC villains, which is not unlike Batman Inc., where the Dark Knight went on a global tour to recruit heroes to work with him to keep the world safe from all manner of threats and criminal organizations.
A creation of Grant Morrison, Batman Incorporated came at a time when Bruce Wayne had just returned to the present after it was largely believed that he had been killed by Darkseid in Final Crisis. Having received a new purpose, the Dark Knight decided to keep Dick Grayson and his son Damian Wayne as Gotham’s Batman and Robin, as they had been protecting the city in his absence. This allowed him to tour the world to recruit Batmen all over the globe such as Batwoman, Batgirl, Red Robin, Huntress, and Batwing domestically; while going overseas to enlist Nightrunner, The Hood, Man-of-Bats, Wingman, El Gaucho, Knight and Squire, and more into his new franchised initiative.
Now, it looks like Slade Wilson will similarly follow suit with Deathstroke Inc., working for the group known as T.R.U.S.T that will arm him with resources and a global team to take down DC villains. However, he’ll also be joined by none other than Black Canary when the new series releases from writer Joshua Williamson with art by Howard Porter. Here’s the solicitation and preview art:

- After suffering too many losses, Slade Wilson decides it’s time for a change. When he’s enlisted to work with an ages-old secret organization called T.R.U.S.T. who want to take down the heavy-hitter villains, he’s all in. They’ll supply him with an all-new team and resources for his new mission into the depths of the weirdest parts of the DCU, including a new partner…Black Canary!
- Wait what?! Enjoy explosions, kick-ass action, and new outrageous adventures as DC’s meanest S.O.B. gets tangled up in a major mystery building in the shadows of the DCU.
Based on the cover art alone, it certainly seems as though there’s an intentional desire for the series to feel like Slade’s unique take on Batman’s former global organization. Furthermore, Deathstroke having Batman’s cowl in his hands in the cover art combined with the “Featuring Batman” tease on the variant art from Francesco Mattina and Adam Hughes seems to confirm that Batman himself will be involved in the new series to some degree.
In any case, this new series featuring Deathstroke will no doubt prove to be fairly interesting and exciting, giving Slade a new era with a team and fresh purpose. Furthermore, Batman Incorporated is certainly a great concept to draw inspiration from, even if it’s coming from an anti-hero with most likely darker purposes and intentions. However, Black Canary’s and Batman’s involvement could indicate that they’ll be making sure Slade doesn’t become too brutal and merciless in his new mission when the DC series releases this September.
