Deathstrokes Speed Force Redesign Needs to Make a Comeback

In DC Comics, Deathstroke is an iconic mercenary, villain, and sometimes anti-hero who once donned a Speed Force costume during the crossover event titled, The Lazarus Contract, and now it’s time for that suit to make a return to comics! Having sweet lightning bolts and electricity streaking across his body is no doubt one of the coolest looks Slade Wilson has ever worn, and fans deserve to see it once again.

Seen during the story arc, The Lazarus Contract, by Priest, Benjamin Percy & Dan Abnett along with a rotating cast of artists, this four-part crossover brings the Titans, Teen Titans, and Deathstroke himself together for an event unlike any other. Wanting to travel back in time to save his son, Grant, from a death that he blames on the Teen Titans, it’s clear Deathstroke will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals, even if that means leaving a trail of dead heroes in his wake.

Capturing both Flash and Kid Flash in an attempt to harness their Speed Force energy (thus giving him the ability to time travel), Deathstroke soon needs to contend with the entire roster of the Titans, led by Nightwing aka Dick Grayson, and the Teen Titans, lead by Robin aka Damian Wayne. Promising to put the moniker of Deathstroke behind him if he can just save his son, Slade is finally able to “convince” Kid Flash to help him with his scheme and gets a sweet costume redesign that immediately becomes one of his best in the process.

Utilizing the stolen Speed Force energy he’s stored via a sort of “extractor” kind of battery technology in his Ikon suit, Deathstroke turns into a lightning-riddled baddie with the speed powers to match. Dressed in an all-black tactical suit with crackling electricity and lightning bolt accents throughout, Deathstroke even gets a supercharged sword that channels his excess energy in a way that makes his already deadly weapon even more powerful.

Already quite dangerous on his own, Deathstroke getting a speed upgrade that only the fastest of speedsters are privy to is a huge get for a guy that could take down the entire Justice League in the blink of an eye if he so wanted to. And by swapping his usual orange and blue look (save for the orange on his mask) to something more monochromatic, sleek, and form-fitting, Deathstroke merges the two looks in a way that is as inspired as it is cool to look at.

So although it might be tough for “The Fastest Killer Alive” to once again steal the powers of the Flash family to make his Speed Force redesign a reality, Slade is the one guy that could make it happen a second time around if he were so inclined. Deathstroke has a killer look on a normal day, but bringing back this one-and-done costume would be a treat that fans would totally love to see.
