What makes an anime or manga character really stand out? Is it their heroic or villainous deeds or a wise quote? Or perhaps the character is a striking visual cue that would make them recognizable anywhere. Many characters in anime and manga have unique outfits and visual design, from Son Goku’s orange and blue combat uniform to Ichigo Kurosaki’s black robes to Monkey D. Luffy’s straw hat, red jacket, and jean shorts and sandals.

10 Rui
This vicious boy is one of the dreaded Twelve Moons, and he made a family and home for himself deep in a forest where no one dares to tread. He and his “family” all have eggshell-white robes with red spots and lines, giving them a sickly sort of look.
Not only that, but Rui’s hair is styled like spider legs, giving him a freakish look. It’s a simple but effective outfit, and it makes Rui really stand out against the dark greens and browns of the forest. It doesn’t make for good camouflage, but then again, Rui is probably too proud for that.
9 Zenitsu
This blond Demon Slayer is a total goofball, and he’s pretty cowardly when the fighting starts. But he also wears the standard Demon Slayer uniform with a flamboyant robe over it. He’s got a robe with electric yellow and orange colors, and it’s peppered with white triangles.
The same is true of his leggings from the knee down. It matches his hair and sword, not to mention his lightning attacks! Like Rui, this makes him stand out, but when he’s fighting for real, subtlety is out the window anyway. Dazzling!
8 Inosuke
At first glance, you wouldn’t even think Inosuke is a Demon Slayer at all! He doesn’t even wear the base uniform like most of the others do, and Zenitsu was terrified of him at first glance. Inosuke is a brash and proud fighter, quick to cross blades with just about anyone.
He’s bare-chested, and wears a boar’s head right over his head to hide his oddly effeminate face (he doesn’t like his looks). That, combined with his rustic pants and his jagged swords, makes for an unforgettable visual!
7 Sakonji Urokodaki
He is Tanjiro’s trainer as a Demon Slayer, and this wise old man never once shows his face. What’s interesting about his costume design is that he’s both recognizable and forgettable at the same time!
He wears an intense red tengu mask to hide his face, showing that his teaching skills are more important than his identity. His clothes are rather plain, and Tanjiro probably wouldn’t recognize a mask-less Sakonji on the streets.
6 Tanjiro
Tanjiro’s own outfit isn’t the single most flamboyant one out there, but it’s quite remarkable all the same. For one thing, this demon-hunting young man has two tag-like earrings with rising sun symbols on them, and perhaps one day, those earrings will prove quite useful!
He also wears a green and black checkered robe to stand out against Zenitsu’s yellow and Nezuko’s pink and white, making him look more grounded. He sometimes has a blue scarf, too.
5 Kyogai
This is a fallen member of the Twelve Moons, lurking in his large house and luring in unsuspecting human prey. His actual clothes are not terribly showy, but then again, he is bare-chested… and not just to show off those abs. He’s got several drums welded onto his flesh, and they appear to have veins in them!
It looks just like the sort of brutal thing a demon would do, and Kyogai can strike those drums to rotate a room in his house to disorient enemies. Then he can tap a different drum to unleash a claw attack! He’s a deadly one-man drumline, and it’s quite a sight.
4 Giyu Tomioka
Giyu is one of the nine Hashira, the elite class of Demon Slayers. Each one controls an aspect of battle, and Giyu’s is water. Like most Demon Slayers, he wears the standard uniform, and over it, he wears a robe that has red cloth on the right side, and a fancy checkered yellow and green pattern on the other.
It’s an oddly colorful and whimsical look for this straight-laced character, and Giyu makes a real first impression when he meets Tanjiro and Nezuko in that snowy mountain forest.
3 Kyojuro Rengoku
Here is another of the Hashira slayers, and this time, we get the one for fire! Every aspect of Kyojuro’s appearance suggests intensity, passion, and heat. Over his standard uniform, he wears a flared-out white robe that soon fades into yellow and red flame patterns, and the hem is jagged like fire.
He also has thick eyebrows and intense (but not unfriendly) eyes, not to mention some wild hair. When he shows up on the battlefield, you’ll know it!
2 Muzan Kibutsuji
Now we get the main villain himself, the insidious Muzan. He’s not the showy type, though, and he even blends into a crowd of people in early-1900s Tokyo. He wears clothes that would look trendy today, from a fine suit to a tie and hat, and his intense red eyes are the only sign of his demonic nature.
Perhaps Muzan is meant to represent the future, and how the ancient Demon Slayer order is no match for the rising power of the demons? Perhaps Muzan is declaring “the future belongs to me!”
1 Shinobu Kocho
The final entry on this list will be another Hashira: Shinobu Kocho, who represents insects. Butterflies, to be precise, and she has a gorgeous butterfly theme to her outfit and general appearance. She wears a stylish robe with pink, white, and black butterfly wing effects, and it’s even more convincing when it flaps around as she moves.
Shinobu elegantly wears her hair in a partial bun, and she has a butterfly hair clip too. She’s a real beauty and a kind person who looks after Tanjiro even if the other Hashiras don’t like him.
