In addition to being the highest-grossing global release of the year, earning more than $469 million worldwide, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train also became the highest-grossing R-rated animated feature film of all time, the highest-grossing anime film of all time, and the most lucrative Japanese movie ever produced.

Given the massive commercial success, Aniplex and Ufotable have announced plans to renew the TV anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba for a second season to premiere sometime in 2021. In the meantime, here are the best demon anime to check out.

10 Overlord (2015 – )

Based on the “Light” novel series written by Kugane Maruyama, Overlord is a splendid demonic anime series that follows Momonga (Satoshi Hino), a young loner who becomes inadvertently trapped in a video game full of yokai, albedos, and a frightening mythological Cocytus.

Once trapped inside the game, Momonga is anointed as a warrior king and must conquer the new world by defeating the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth and his raft of evil minions. With 39 episodes produced since 2015, plans for a season 4 return have yet to be announced.

9 Blue Exorcist (2011 – 2012)

While it only lasted 25 episodes from 2011-2012, Blue Exorcist is a must-watch for fans of Demon Slayer. When he learns that his father is the devil incarnate, Rin joins the clandestine True Cross Academy to become a trained exorcist and defeat the forces of evil that course through his blood.

8 High School DxD (2012 – 2018)

The Devil is a Part-Timer! subverts the demonic anime formula by placing Satan on Earth, stripping him of his evil powers, and forcing him to work as fast food employee in modern-day Japan. With more of a comedic bent than the others, the show is an ideal change of pace for Demon Slayer fans who still crave yokai horror.

5 Black Butler (2008 – 2010)

When their family is assaulted by a vicious horde of demonic monsters, Tanjiro (Natsuki Hanae) realizes his little sister Nezuko (Akari Kito) is slowly turning into a demon as well. In order to reverse the curse and save his sister for good, Tanjiro opts to become a demon so that he can fight fire with fire, so to speak.
