Demon’s Souls PS5 Remake Finally Gives FromSoft Games A Good Character Creator

The newly revealed Demon’s Souls character creation elements finally give FromSoftware a game with good variety in terms of player aesthetic.

The Demon’s Souls PS5 character creation system was unveiled by PlayStation UK earlier today, and it’s proof that a FromSoftware game will finally have a good character customization system – even if most of that character’s time is spent wearing huge sets of armor and desperately trying to avoid an untimely demise, and it had to come from another studio. Demon’s Souls is one of the few exclusive launch titles for the PlayStation 5 and, as such, despite being a remake, it’s got the air of a brand new game surrounding it, especially given its pedigree.

While Dark Souls is the game most people immediately associate with FromSoftware, Demon’s Souls was its predecessor, and the Souls genre as a whole has that game to thank for many of its current – and beloved – systems. That said, Demon’s Souls hasn’t aged particularly well when it comes to graphics, and FromSoftware has since refined its systems so much that the previously challenging can often come off as simply frustrating in retrospect. That’s why a Demon’s Souls remake has been such a heavily-anticipated announcement for fans, well before it was actually revealed: it’s an important history lesson, but also a much-needed overhaul of a game that has a lot to offer with a few tweaks and a lot of polish, and Bluepoint Games looks like it will deliver on that promise.

Thanks to the PlayStation UK Twitter account, fans have finally gotten a glimpse of what the Demon’s Souls PS5 character creation system looks like, and it’s a stunning take on a much-maligned system from the original. The character creation system is flat-out gorgeous, with character models that look like a far cry from the monstrosities that a FromSoftware character creation suite usually brings into the world. The tweet even states that there are 16 million permutations in the Demon’s Souls PS5 character creation system, which means players will likely be spending a lot of time with the suite to really push it and see what it’s capable of.

The replies on social media have already indicated players will be looking to sink hours into the new Demon’s Souls PS5 character creator, which is the usual response when a game has this kind of robust range of options. As is par for the course with FromSoftware fans, there will also likely be some horrors wrought from the Demon’s Souls PS5 character creator that were previously only possible in their twisted imaginations. Unfortunately, those will probably be making the rounds once the game releases, juxtaposed by other people’s more human-looking creations.

The main takeaway from this reveal, however, should be just how amazing Demon’s Souls has looked on PS5 from top to bottom. Even though it’s a remake, Demon’s Souls on PS5 has the feel of a launch title, at least in terms of what it looks like. If Bluepoint Games can tweak the game enough to make up for the shortcomings of the original with this kind of modern sheen, it may be the unexpected Demon’s Souls that sets the PS5 apart from its competition this month. Fans won’t have to wait long to find out, however – it’s only a week away. Still, it’s pretty funny that Demon’s Souls finally gives FromSoftware games a great character creation suite – but it’s not actually FromSoft that implemented it.
