As part of being a live service game, Destiny 2 continues to evolve and change through new expansions, seasonal content, and periodic updates. Since the series began years ago, Bungie has managed to include limited time events based on real world holidays such as The Dawning for the winter season and Festival of the Lost which transforms the game into a Halloween inspired twist. The social hub known as the Tower becomes decked out in candles, spooky background noises, a twisted tree in the central area, and plenty of cosmetics for players to unlock.

Bungie has been tight lipped on this year’s version of Festival of the Lost, only revealing that Destiny 2 community voted Dinosaur armor would be made available along with a special Day of the Dead ghost which was a collaboration between Bungie and community artist Luis Miguel Yepez Franco. While previous events typically featured the Haunted Forest, a twisted take on the Infinite Forest section of Mercury, this year’s event changes things up to provide a fresh take on this special holiday season.

For this year’s Festival of the Lost in Destiny 2, players will be heading to special Haunted Sectors where Bungie has hand crafted three missions with a horror twist. According to the latest blog update, The three tales involve an Exo merging with a Vex Mind to transform into something new, a Guardian on Nessus being hunted for their Ghost, and headless creatures patrolling on the Moon, endlessly searching for their Ghosts. In addition to these unique missions, players will also be tasked with finding lost pages to the Book of the Forgotten to earn even more lore and loot.

Of course, Festival of the Lost wouldn’t be complete without loot and cosmetics. New masks are available to be collected and feature characters and creatures like the Penguin souvenir statues on Europa, the Pyramid ships, Ada-1, and many more. In keeping with the dinosaur theme, players can also obtain the Jurassic Green Pulse Rifle, new Ghost shells, emotes, sparrows, and ships. Earn candy by wearing masks and visit Eva Levante at the Tower to unlock new masks and rewards. Players have until November 2 to earn or purchase this year’s loot.

While the current Destiny 2 season is twice the size of a typical one due to the Witch Queen expansion delay into February 2022, Bungie is making sure players will have plenty of content to keep them logging in. In addition to the Festival of the Lost and current Savathun storyline, Bungie is preparing to release a special 30th Anniversary Update which not only adds special Bungie themed armor, but gives players access to a new 6 player matchmade dungeon and the return of the fan favorite rocket launcher, Gjallarhorn.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
