Destiny 2 How To Get The Forerunner Sidearm (& Catalyst)

The Forerunner Exotic Sidearm is a new weapon in Destiny 2 that all players can get, as well as the Catalyst for the Halo-themed weapon. Bungie’s long-awaited 30th Anniversary event is now live in Destiny 2. Those who purchased the 30th Anniversary pack now have access to new armor, emotes, the Gjallarhorn Exotic Rocket Launcher, a new dungeon, and more. Fortunately, the Forerunner Exotic Sidearm is one of the few items that are part of the free-to-play update in Destiny 2.

The Forerunner Exotic Sidearm is modeled after the Magnum that many Halo fans will recognize from Halo: Combat Evolved. Forerunner is a 200 RPM powerful sidearm with only a 20 round faster fire rate than some of the Hand Cannons in Destiny 2. Forerunner’s unique perk is called Pace Yourself, where tapping the trigger reduces the weapon’s recoil and improves its accuracy. Forerunner’s Exotic intrinsic perk is called Full Stop, which grants it heavy-caliber rounds and an extended range. Additionally, Full Stop allows Forerunner to fire at Full Auto with an increased rate of fire and deals increased precision damage to unshielded targets.

To get Forerunner in Destiny 2, players will have to complete the new Magnum Opus quest from Xur. When players first log into Destiny 2, Xur brings them to the new six-player activity, Dares of Eternity. Once completed, players need to return to orbit and proceed to Eternity to speak with Xur. Veteran players know Xur as an Exotic vendor in Destiny 2, but he has seen more attention in Season of the Lost, and his involvement with the new Exotic Sidearm is further evidence of his importance. After arriving at Eternity, Xur will ask Guardians to use a key to open a nearby chest, and after returning to him once, more players will be given the Magnum Opus quest.

Destiny 2: How To Get The Forerunner Catalyst (& What It Does)

Continue to follow the steps in-game to complete the Exotic quest. This quest requires players to play the Dares of Eternity activity multiple times to receive seven Strange Coins, complete Starhorse Bounties, and the final step of the quest ends with Banshee-44 restoring Forerunner to its former glory. To unlock the Forerunner Catalyst, players will need to continue leveling Xur’s new vendor rank in Destiny 2 to level 16 and unlock the Anomalous Access Card. Then, continue earning Strange Coins to purchase more bounties from Xur and complete them to rank up.

The Forerunner Catalyst is called The Rock, and it has one unique effect in-game. For several seconds after a final blow, switch weapons to consume part of the ammo reserves, converting the next thrown grenade into a frag grenade, which is yet another nod to Bungie’s involvement with Halo. However, before the Catalyst is fully operational, players will need to defeat 700 targets with the Forerunner in Destiny 2.
