Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

Pokémon may have started as a franchise earlier than Digimon Adventure, but that doesn’t mean Pokémon are better than Digimon by default. Pitting Digimon against Pokémon is a tactic hardcore fans on both sides use to try and validate their opinion that one franchise is better than the other, but the facts are that some Pokémon will have an advantage over some Digimon and vice versa.

An easy cop-out is to mention that Digimon can freely evolve back and forth through forms, which sounds good on the surface but leaves out the important detail that Digimon can’t just Digivolve at will. Only Digimon with Digidestined partners can freely move throughout evolutions and only when their partners are in danger. With that in mind, Agumon won’t be Digivolving for any of these fights.

10 COULD DEFEAT: Charmander Doesn’t Have Much Of An Advantage

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

Charmander is likely faster than Agumon, but its attack capabilities aren’t as powerful. Moves like Tackle and Scratch will only go so far, and Agumon has the larger claws out of the two, anyway. Although both combatants will have some natural fire resistance, Agumon’s Pepper Breath has been shown to be larger and more powerful than Charmander’s Ember and will likely do more damage overall. It’ll be a close competition, but Agumon walks away with the prize here.

9 COULDN’T DEFEAT: Mewtwo’s Psychic Prowess Will Put Agumon In His Place

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

This matchup seems a bit unfair, but it’s nevertheless fun to imagine how Pokémon’s first legendary would fare against one of the most popular Digimon out there. Although Agumon can Digivolve into Greymon, who would likely pose a bigger threat, Digimon typically Digivolve when their partners are in danger. Considering this is an ordinary matchup, Mewtwo’s psychic prowess would likely make short work of Agumon. His Pepper Breath attacks won’t do much against Mewtwo’s impressive special defense stat.

8 COULD DEFEAT: Scizor Has A Huge Type Disadvantage

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

One benefit Agumon has in a Pokémon battle is the various type weaknesses Pokémon have. Scizor might be over twice as tall as Agumon, but it’s also a Bug/Steel-type Pokémon, making it especially weak to fire attacks. Even one Pepper Breath from Agumon is sure to cause enough damage to slow Scizor down. Scizor might be able to get a few hits in during the scuffle, but they won’t be enough to take Agumon out before Scizor faints from fire damage.

7 COULDN’T DEFEAT: Garchomp Is Too Fast For Agumon To Keep Up With

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

Agumon stands around 2’6″ tall, meaning Garchomp’s impressive 6’3″ frame already puts Agumon at a disadvantage. But it’s not their size that’ll win the day. Instead, it’s their speed. Garchomp is known for being one of the fastest Pokémon in the game, and its Pokédex entries note that it can fly at “sonic speed.”

And even if Agumon did get a few Pepper Breaths in, Garchomp’s Dragon/Ground typing makes it resistant to fire elemental moves. Garchomp easily wins in this matchup.

6 COULD DEFEAT: Bulbasaur Won’t Be Much Of A Challenge

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

Like Scizor, Bulbasaur is also weak to fire moves albeit not to the same extent. Bulbasaur is also around the same size as Agumon, making them a bit more matched in terms of size. Elemental matchups work differently in Digimon so Agumon doesn’t have any type advantages against Grass or Poison moves, meaning Bulbasaur’s attacks will be at full-strength. But with Bulbasaur being susceptible to fire, it’s likely that Bulbasaur will tap out before Agumon takes enough damage.

5 COULDN’T DEFEAT: Tyranitar’s Size & Resistance Will Outlast Agumon

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

Standing at a massive 6’7″, Johto region’s Tyranitar is a wall of a Pokémon that can take a beating before going down. Even if Agumon were to attack while Tyranitar did nothing, it would take a substantial amount of time before Tyranitar fainted. The flip side to that is speed, with Tyranitar being much slower than Agumon. Nevertheless, Tyranitar can take some hits while waiting for an opportunity to strike. Once it finds an opening, one or two good hits will likely be enough to put Agumon down for the count.

4 COULD DEFEAT: Pikachu’s Quick But Can’t Take A Hit

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

To be frank, Ash’s Pikachu is an outstanding specimen and it can pull off a lot of feats that ordinary Pikachu can’t. Against Ash’s Pikachu, Agumon might lose. But for an average Pikachu, Agumon will likely come out on top. Pikachu’s main advantage over Agumon is speed since an ordinary Pikachu boasts a below-average special attack score of 50 with its physical attack clocking in at 55. It’s more likely that Agumon will land a couple of good Pepper Breaths to drain Pikachu’s strength and then finish it off.

3 COULDN’T DEFEAT: Snorlax’s High HP Will Wear Agumon Out

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

With an impressive special defense stat and an astronomical HP pool, Snorlax is a worthwhile tank that can take a lot of hits before passing out. Moreover, its physical attack points are also high, so Agumon will be knocked out with one good Body Slam.

Snorlax is slow, so it’ll need an opening to make its move, but once it does, it’ll be the end for Agumon. He’ll likely put up a good fight in the meantime but ultimately lacks the firepower to take Snorlax down quickly.

2 COULD DEFEAT: Eevee Lacks The Strength To Beat Agumon

Digimon Adventure 5 Pokémon Agumon Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldnt)

Agumon is a bit clumsy at times, so it’s possible that Eevee can nimbly avoid him while getting in some Quick Attacks. But Agumon’s strength is arguably better than what a first form Normal-type Pokémon like Eevee can put out, so a few well-timed attacks should make quick work of Eevee. The match might be close, however, since Eevee can be cleverer than Agumon in addition to its higher speed. Agumon is about twice as big as Eevee though, so the fight ultimately goes to Agumon.

1 COULDN’T DEFEAT: Lucario Has The Speed & Strength To Take Agumon Down

While Lucario isn’t much taller than Agumon and also has a type disadvantage since it’s part Steel, Lucario nevertheless has the raw strength to take Agumon out, and the speed to dodge him. And if Lucario’s Pokédex entry is to be believed, it can sense auras and predict its opponents’ movements. Agumon is in for a rough time against Lucario and although he might get some substantial damage done with some strong Pepper Breaths, Lucario is ultimately taking home the prize here.
