Doctor Fate Proves Hes More Powerful Than Marvels Doctor Strange

DC Comics’ Doctor Fate has proven he’s more powerful than Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. The two superheroes known for their mastery of the mystic arts have often been compared to each other, but the Justice League Dark member has demonstrated his skill is above anything the Avenger can do.

From their similar names to their roles within their distinct universes, Doctor Fate and Doctor Strange are clear counterparts. Joining a select few other heroes such as Aquaman and Namor, Batman and Daredevil, and Martian Manhunter and Vision, the two sorcerers are a perfect cross-company match. Although a DC and Marvel crossover might not happen again for a while, fans have already gotten their answer on who is the more powerful superhero.

When Doctor Fate broke the fourth wall and spoke directly to the audience in The Flash #776, he proved that he’s more powerful than Doctor Strange. DC’s gold helmet-wearing hero showed the extent of his powers in the issue written by Jeremy Adams, with art by Fernando Pasarin, Jeromy Cox, and Matt Ryan. While Strange is confined to the Marvel Universe, Doctor Fate has no limitations. Although the Sorcerer Supreme has traveled through the multiverse in the past, he has never become aware that he exists in a comic book and can recruit the assistance of a reader. Unlike Strange, Fate can handle such information that might send him into an identity crisis. Despite Strange’s magic working within the confines of the Marvel multiverse, it doesn’t extend as far as Fate’s magic does.

Since this is the first time that Fate has ever shown the ability to break the fourth wall, it puts the debate comparing him with Strange to a rest. By this logic, Doctor Fate could even meet his Marvel counterpart by casually entering his universe. DC has had only a handful of characters capable of breaking the fourth wall, based on their awareness of their comic book reality. Due to this gap in power sets, it might imply that Doctor Fate is the most powerful hero within the DC Universe.

In contrast, Doctor Strange has been shown to explore the Marvel iteration of the multiverse, dealing with bizarre threats that Fate has yet to encounter himself. Despite being able to manipulate time and other components within his world, Strange hasn’t done anything close to recruiting his comic’s audience. When Doctor Fate reveals his ability to interact with the reader, Wally West AKA the Flash is surprised, which is the same reaction that the less powerful Doctor Strange would likely have.
