Marvel Studios’ Victoria Alonso has confirmed that reshoots for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness are currently still taking place, but are almost done. After its original release date of November 2021, Doctor Strange 2 was pushed back to make way for the highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home. The sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange suffered a subsequent delay with the film now finally slated for release in May 2022. The follow up will see former Spider-Man director Sam Raimi helm what is being dubbed the MCU’s “first horror movie,” with the film set to link to a number of Marvel’s other Phase 4 releases.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness will see Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role as the Master of the Mystic Arts, Doctor Stephen Strange, alongside a returning ensemble cast that includes the likes of Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor. As for what can be expected from this upcoming release, Doctor Strange 2 has remained shrouded in mystery throughout its production, with very little having been confirmed in the way of plot up to this point. After filming was initially interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, production officially resumed in January 2021, with a number of planned reshoots having been confirmed for late this year.

Now, it appears that Marvel is nearly wrapped on the process of shooting the film’s additional photography as 2021 edges to a close. While speaking with Variety at the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel’s President of Physical and Post Production, Victoria Alonso confirmed that reshoots are still taking place on the Doctor Strange sequel, but shared that they are “almost done.” Alonso also alluded to the packed slate that Marvel have in store for 2022, going on to say “there is so much to come,” and teasing that there would be plenty of news next year. Doctor Strange looks set to play a sizeable role in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will see Peter Parker botch one of Strange’s spells, changing their universe as they know it and ultimately breaking the multiverse wide open. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is not only set to link to Marvel’s big screen productions, but also those that are exclusive to Disney+. Earlier this year, fans were delighted at the confirmation that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff would also be key to the story of the Doctor Strange sequel. As well as this, there have been a number of rumors that the film could also feature an appearance from Loki’s Sylvie and Mobius, but this is yet to be confirmed.

With the stacked cast that Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is set to boast, it’s understandable that there may have been a significant amount of reshoots to complete. Rumors that a completed trailer for the sequel would feature within the credits for Spider-Man: No Way Home were recently debunked by Disney’s Marketing President, and with production still underway it’s fair to assume that a trailer may not exactly be imminent at this point in time. However, the confirmation from Alonso that the film is nearing completion will be incredibly exciting for audiences, who can’t wait to see Doctor Strange’s story continue in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, especially now the dangers of the multiverse are set to make themselves known in the latest Spider-Man outing.
