Netflix’s Living With Yourself star Aisling Bea is set to feature in the upcoming Doctor Who New Year’s Day special. Thirteenth Doctor actor Jodie Whittaker’s time in the TARDIS is ending as she prepares to hand the reins over after the ongoing season 13 and three special episodes airing across 2022. The first of these will be a New Year’s Day special, as has been expected since 2019, when showrunner Chris Chibnall opted to replace the show’s traditional Christmas Day episode with a New Year’s one.

TV Mag (via @John_El98) reports that the actor and comedian Bea is set to appear in Doctor Who’s upcoming New Year’s Day 2022 special. The report claims that she will be joined by Pauline McLynn, a seasoned British character actor most recently seen in Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho. The publication also drops a very brief synopsis for the story, stating, “A regular visitor sees something extremely irregular going on at the ELF storage unit.”

It’s a major credit to Doctor Who to feature two accomplished figures in the British comedy scene, and with both actors being Irish, fans have an inkling of the story’s potential setting. While this report doesn’t give much plot detail, both prior New Year’s Day specials shared an ongoing storyline featuring the Doctor’s oldest foes, the Daleks, attempting to conquer Earth.
