Google packed the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with an incredible amount of features — but does that list include wireless charging? There are a variety of features people come to expect from flagship smartphones these days. Be it high refresh rate displays, long battery life, excellent cameras, or anything else; there are a number of things companies need to get right to deliver a well-rounded experience. With virtually all past Pixel handsets, this is something Google’s often struggled with.
Thankfully, the Pixel 6 series changes that. Google’s latest phones have just about everything you could ask for: 90 and 120Hz screens, over 24-hour battery, the ultra-powerful Google Tensor chip, and a lot more. What’s even more impressive is how Google delivered all of this at jaw-dropping prices. Whether it be the $599 Pixel 6 or $899 Pixel 6 Pro, these are two of the best flagship deals within the entire smartphone market. Compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Galaxy S21 Ultra — phones that cost at least $1099 and $1299, respectively — the value Google achieved is remarkable.
All of that sounds great, but there’s one feature some folks may still be asking about — wireless charging. Google’s offered wireless charging on all of its flagship Pixels since the Pixel 3. Lucky for us, that tradition continues in full force with the Pixel 6 series. No matter if someone buys the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, both phones support Qi wireless charging without a hitch. That functionality can also be reversed for the Battery Share feature. Enable it on the Pixel 6, place another Qi-compatible device on its backside, and the Pixel 6 starts charging it.
Google Pixel 6 Wireless Charging Speeds Explained
So there is wireless charging, but how fast are the charging speeds in this mode? Placing the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro on a Qi charger, both phones refuel at up to 12W. Similar to previous Pixels, the charger must have an EPP (Extended Power Profile) rating to achieve the full 12W performance. The Pixel 6 handsets still work with non-EPP wireless chargers, but the speeds are slower.
If someone has a Pixel 6 and wants the best wireless charging experience, it may be worth looking at the Google Pixel Stand (2nd Gen). Designed with the Pixel 6 phones in mind, the Pixel Stand (2nd Gen) delivers the fastest possible wireless charging the phones are capable of. When placed on the Pixel Stand, the regular Pixel 6 wirelessly charges up to 21W. The Pixel 6 Pro is even more impressive with a 23W charging speed. The Pixel Stand (2nd Gen) is currently listed as ‘coming soon,’ but when it is eventually available, it’ll cost just $79.
