Popular YouTube streamer Dr Disrespect recently mercilessly smashed his Xbox controller after Halo Infinite’s aim assist angered him. Herschel Beahm, much known by his online persona Dr Disrespect, was mysteriously banned from Twitch in June 2020 but has since continued his career streaming on YouTube. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer recently released for free to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary, drawing the attention of first-person shooter streamers everywhere.

Among the video game streaming community, Dr Disrespect has made a name for himself with his brash attitude, a number of controversies and a huge following of fans. Throughout his career, Dr Disrespect has run into trouble for a number of high-profile allegations and mishaps – including being banned from E3 2019 for filming in a public bathroom and accusations of racism. However, the streaming star’s ban from Twitch in 2020 stands out as quite unusual, since the streaming platform still refuses to give a definitive reason for cutting Dr Disrespect loose. Some rumors claim that Disrespect negotiated with other platforms behind Twitch’s back, and the bombastic streamer himself recently claimed to be suing the company for the incident. Most recently, Dr Disrespect was involved in an online argument about controllers versus mouse-and-keyboard controls, with Disrespect firmly opposing controller use.

Continuing his ongoing feud against gaming controllers, Dr Disrespect (DrDisRespect on YouTube, via Game Rant) recently smashed an Xbox controller during his stream while playing Halo Infinite. Throughout the November 22 stream, he repeatedly commented on the sci-fi shooter’s ineffective aim assist, which caused him to be outperformed in a number of firefights. Finally, towards the end of the stream, the all-star streamer got so frustrated with a defeat that he smashed his controller on the floor. It was completely broken, rendering him immobile in the game while he expressed, “As good as Halo comes off to be, there’s a lot of little things that are adding up…” Other players have reported that a glitch in Halo Infinite may turn off aim assist for players using a controller on PC, so Disrespect may have encountered this issue.

While the surprising free launch of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer has been praised, many issues frustrated the game’s player base following its release. The title’s paid cosmetics and Battle Pass system have led to many franchise fans expressing their disappointment, seeing as a majority of customization options are locked behind a paywall requiring real-world money. Halo Infinite players have also encountered cheaters, which is discouraging for a game that only launched less than two weeks ago. Many examples of aimbots were also discovered, giving exploitative players an unfair advantage against the title’s more honest gamers.

Given Dr Disrespect’s well-known penchant for drama, breaking a controller during gameplay is not particularly surprising. However, it is a demonstration for how frustrating it can be to encounter an abundance of issues in a brand-new title. If using an Xbox controller on PC causes the aforementioned aim assist disappearance glitch, Dr Disrespect’s public outrage may hopefully draw attention towards fixing this unusual bug.
