Dragon Ball Super 10 Best Episodes Of The Tournament Of Power According To IMDb

It’s impossible not to love the Tournament of Power arc as a Dragon Ball fan. There’s literally something in it for everyone, whether it’s unique character moments that allow all of the humans to shine or awesome callbacks to the original series, or even just cool Super Saiyan power-ups.

It’s not perfect, as introducing a ton of new universes left unexplored isn’t the strongest way to end a sequel to the most popular anime of all time, but that’s unimportant. There’s a ton of highly-ranked episodes that have earned their right to stand among some of the best parts of all of Dragon Ball.

10 The Approaching Wall! The Final Barrier of Hope! – 8.5

Dragon Ball Super 10 Best Episodes Of The Tournament Of Power According To IMDb

Goku, Vegeta, and Android 17 were three of the most powerful people in the tournament… and this episode sees Jiren knock them around like it’s nothing. How’s that for establishing a villain? At this point, no one else is left in the ring other than Universe 7’s remaining fighters and Universe 11’s Jiren.

People finally learn what Jiren’s true wish is from hearing his background, where he lost all his family and friends and learned to only believe in his own strength. This might be the one reason why this episode ranks as low as it does amongst the greats: the boring and boilerplate origin means there’s just not much to Jiren.

9 Body and Soul, Full Power Release! Goku and Vegeta!! – 8.6

It doesn’t make sense that Goku can use Kaioken while also using Super Saiyan Blue. It makes zero sense that Vegeta is able to use his Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form to fight at the same level as Goku—that should mean that he’s outright stronger than Goku.

But put the power-scaling aside and enjoy one of the most intense battles, with Jiren finally having to try against his opponents.

8 With Imposing Presence! God of Destruction Toppo Descends! – 8.7

Dragon Ball Super 10 Best Episodes Of The Tournament Of Power According To IMDb

Basically: this episode was about informing fans they should quit pretending Top isn’t as worthy of respect as Jiren. Despite both Android 17 and Freiza working together, neither of them is able to get Top out of the ring.

Instead, they convince him to tap into his destruction energy, making him more dangerous than ever. Frieza in particular takes the brunt of Top’s blows for trying to use underhanded techniques to get the win.

7 The Signs of a Comeback! Ultra Instinct’s Huge Explosion! – 8.7

Dragon Ball Super 10 Best Episodes Of The Tournament Of Power According To IMDb

This episode could easily have ranked higher without raising anyone’s attention. After Kefla completely overpowers Goku, there doesn’t seem to be much hope of him surviving her onslaught… until Goku manages to activate Ultra Instinct.

From there we learn that Goku hasn’t figured out how to tap into Ultra Instinct’s full potential yet, and is instead holding back his attacks. Still, what everyone remembers is the most impressive Kamehameha of all time, that involves him skating upside down over Kefla’s wave before hitting her point-blank. Incredible.

6 Surpass Even A God! Vegeta’s Desperate Blow!! – 8.8

Dragon Ball Super 10 Best Episodes Of The Tournament Of Power According To IMDb

After Top goes through both Frieza and Android 17, Vegeta is finally forced to step in to fight against him. This episode is great not only because Vegeta is finally allowed to get a win that matters, but because it has some of Vegeta’s best character moments ever.

He acknowledges his Saiyan pride, but also acknowledges the love he has for his family and even his protege Cabba. This allows him to reach a new level of power to defeat even a god of destruction candidate and provides one of the best episodes in the entire series.

5 The Ultimate Enemy Approaches Goku! Now, Let Loose! The Killer Spirit Bomb! – 8.9

Dragon Ball Super 10 Best Episodes Of The Tournament Of Power According To IMDb

Once again Goku going Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-Ken times 20 makes zero sense against Jiren, but whatever. Basically, this becomes the first time Goku goes up against Jiren in a proper fight.

Jiren becomes so confident that he even allows Goku to power up a Spirit Bomb to hit Jiren with… which Jiren simply directs back at him, a perfect cliffhanger for the arc.

4 Transcending the Limit! Mastering Ultra Instinct!! – 9.2

After going head to head with Jiren for multiple episodes and getting nearly beat to sleep each time, Goku finally hits Ultra Instinct again and winds up battling Jiren almost at the same level. But with the tournament nearly over, Jiren begins to take Goku more seriously.

This episode is impressive from an animation standpoint, with Jiren locking Goku onto a single rock while he rains down punches with the intent of forcing a ring-out.

3 An Unprecedented Super Showdown! The Ultimate Survival Battle!! – 9.3

Goku spent much of this long arc trying to figure out how to use Ultra Instinct properly. With no other universes remaining, he figures it out just in time to face the most powerful opponent he’s ever crossed blows with.

Mastered Ultra Instinct allows Goku to not only match Jiren but surpass him in terms of power. He dominates Jiren even as Jiren finally goes all out, but in the end, Ultra Instinct runs out, forcing Goku to have to work with some unexpected allies to finally take Jiren down.

2 A Miraculous Conclusion! Farewell, Goku! Until We Meet Again! – 9.4

Dragon Ball Super 10 Best Episodes Of The Tournament Of Power According To IMDb

The last episode of Dragon Ball Super, everything in this episode is about wrapping up everything. We get to see all the remaining members of Universe 7 team up to fight Jiren, who’s weakened after being pounded by Goku’s full Ultra Instinct.

Everything else is all wrapping up the series—wishing back the other multiverses and seeing Top and Jiren one last time. The only bad thing about this episode is it makes most people want more Dragon Ball Super.

1 Son Goku Wakes! New Level of the Awakened – 9.5

After Goku gets smacked with his own Spirit Bomb by Jiren, people believe he wound up taking himself out by his own attack. But after a few minutes, Goku re-emerges boasting the power of Ultra Instinct Sign, a technique belonging only to the gods.

With Dragon Ball Z, new Super Saiyan forms are a dime-a-dozen, but Ultra Instinct was something unique for the first time in ages, and this first showdown between Goku and Jiren is one of the moments people will remember the most out of the series.
