Cauifla from Dragon Ball Super was introduced with much hype, but there’s a lot of facts about this female Super Saiyan that make no sense.

Dragon Ball Super 10 Things That Make No Sense About Caulifla

Introduced just before the Tournament of Power officially got underway, Caulifla went down in history as Dragon Ball’s first female Super Saiyan. As a natural prodigy like Goku, she doesn’t back down from a challenging fight, and always seeks to test the limits of her power.

While she was a great addition to the franchise, her character is filled with plotholes, and there’s a lot about her that doesn’t really make much sense, ultimately making her a weaker character overall. Below are just ten things that are holding her back from being known as one of Dragon Ball’s most believable, anticipated characters.

10 She Was Upset At Saonel And Pirina After She Lost

Perhaps the strongest warrior on Universe 6’s team during the Tournament of Power was Hit, but after Kale and Caulifla fused into Kefla, the fused warrior quickly took that title for herself. After Goku defeated Kefla, Saonel and Pirina were the last Universe 6 warriors left on the battlefield.

Caulifla threatened to beat them up if they lost, but she was ignoring the fact she herself lost even after fusing into a powerful warrior. For her to be so angry with Saonel and Pirina when they’d come so close to taking out Piccolo and Gohan was more than just a tad bit hypocritical, even if it was meant for comic relief at the end of the day.

9 Caulifla’s Personality Wasn’t Changed After Her First Super Saiyan Transformation

Fans were initially led to believe that the Super Saiyan transformation was first spurred by intense emotion, like in the cases of Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Future Trunks. The transformation often was accompanied by an altered mental state as well. Even when Cabba first transformed, he was overcome with intense rage that fueled his blind assault on Vegeta.

Caulifla didn’t have a mental shift at all after transforming for the first time, remaining just as calm as ever. Even after jumping to Super Saiyan 2, she remained in perfect control of her emotions. She might be a prodigy, but her first experience with Super Saiyan should’ve taken more of a toll on her emotions than it did.

8 She Jumped From Super Saiyan 1 To Super Saiyan 2 In Seconds

Dragon Ball Super 10 Things That Make No Sense About Caulifla

It was already a stretch when Trunks and Goten were able to transform into Super Saiyans at such a young age, but fans were left speechless after Caulifla jumped from Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan 2 without even trying. After seeing Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Trunks struggle so long just to master Super Saiyan, it was hard to believe that Caulifla had surpassed them all in the literal blink of an eye.

Without the usual intense training sessions or natural Zenkai that is usually required for a Saiyan to push their evolution to the next step, this should’ve been impossible.

7 She Felt The Need To Rely On Third Grade Super Saiyan

Dragon Ball Super 10 Things That Make No Sense About Caulifla

While Caulifla hadn’t formally learned how to transform into a Super Saiyan 2 until her fight with Goku, she showed earlier that she could access it off instinct alone. With her natural prowess and mastery of the Super Saiyan transformation, she should’ve known that her Third Grade Super Saiyan form would’ve been useless against Goku.

With Super Saiyan already under her belt, there was no good reason for her to utilize that transformation, or even know it for that matter.

6 Goku Thought She Might Reach Super Saiyan 3 During The Tournament Of Power

Dragon Ball Super 10 Things That Make No Sense About Caulifla

It was already unbelievable that Calulifla was able to utilize Super Saiyan 2 in a fight after having just learned about Super Saiyan that same day, but many fans don’t understand why Goku believed she could attain Super Saiyan 3 within the 45 minutes that made up the Tournament of Power. While Gotenks was able to master the form, he had several weeks to do so in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

The only other Saiyan in the anime to access this form was Goku, and even then, he was only able to do so in death first. If a fighter as talented as him, having gained the power of the gods, can’t yet wield Super Saiyan 3 in an efficient manner, what made him think that Caulifla could even reach that level?

5 How She Gained Followers

While it was easy to tell that Caulifla was something of a vagabond, the anime never went in-depth as to how she gained so many followers.

She’s not exactly the most personable, or even likable, character around, and it’s difficult to believe that such a meek girl like Kale would be so willing to join her group.

4 She Hadn’t Noticed Kale’s Latent Power Before

In a world where characters can sense ki almost instinctively, it makes no sense at all that Caulifla hadn’t noticed Kale’s latent abilities after being in such close proximity to her for so long.

As someone who progresses through Super Saiyan forms in the blink of an eye, Caulifla clearly isn’t the most observant.

3 She Wasn’t Invited To The Tournament Of Destroyers

Before the Tournament of Power, there was the Tournament of Destroyers, a competition between Universe 6 and Universe 7 to decide Earth’s fate. While Champa and Vados did a good job assembling a fighting force that contained powerful warriors like Hit and Cabba, some of the weaker members like Frost (who had to resort to cheap tricks to win at the time) or even Botamo could’ve easily been substituted with someone like Caulifla.

After seeing that Universe 7’s team would have two Saiyans, it would’ve made sense for Champa to seek out another Saiyan for his own team. Caulifla would’ve been the best bet, since she was stronger than Cabba before he discovered the Super Saiyan transformation before her. And even if she wasn’t fighting, she could’ve still been invited as a spectator.

We’re certain she would’ve jumped at the opportunity if it meant seeing other Saiyans from an alternate universe in action.

2 She Saw Nothing Wrong With Double-teaming Goku

Dragon Ball Super 10 Things That Make No Sense About Caulifla

While Saiyans are known as some of the strongest characters in the series, they’re also strangely some of the most honorable, often opting to fight tough battles on their own even when their odds would be much better if they teamed up.

When Caulifla first started fighting Goku during the Tournament of Power, she did so alone, and even when Kale tried to jump in and provide her with assistance, Caulifla gave her companion the cold shoulder. After Goku’s battle with Jiren however, Caulifla suddenly had no problem fighting alongside Kale against Goku who, at the time, was running on fumes.

While this tactic didn’t win them the fight, a Saiyan as prideful as Caulifla shouldn’t have been so down with such a dirty battle tactic. She should’ve still wanted to fight Goku alone, especially if she expected him to teach her how to go Super Saiyan 3 at some point.

1 She Mastered Super Saiyan So Instinctively

Unlike other Saiyans, Caulifla didn’t struggle hard to attain Super Saiyan, and the transformation wasn’t triggered by great anger or grief. She merely concentrated energy in her back and succeeded in her first attempt.

There have been many theories as to why she was able to do this; the concept of S-Cells were introduced by Toriyama to explain why the transformation was so instinctive for her. Nevertheless, it just doesn’t make sense. Even in the case of Goten and Trunks, who also instinctively mastered the transformation, both warriors were conceived after their fathers had already accessed the transformation, so the argument that it was genetic couldn’t apply here since as far as we know, her parents weren’t Super Saiyans themselves.

Though Caulifla might be this supposed prodigy, she shouldn’t be able to just jump through transformations that took someone as hardworking as Goku years to access. When Vegeta mentioned that Super Saiyan had been reduced to a child’s plaything after Trunks so flawlessly pulled off the transformation, he probably never expected that the first female Super Saiyan would make the transformation look almost mundane.
