Dragon Ball Super Vegetas Ultra Ego Colors Finally Revealed

Ever since Vegeta’s Ultra Ego form debuted in the black-and-white pages Dragon Ball Super, fans have been speculating about what color scheme this transformation will follow. Now, new art has revealed the official look, just ahead of Jump Festa 2022. Yellow pupils are nowhere to be seen, though there are some rather consistent design choices being made regarding the Dragon Ball series as a whole.

Jump Festa 2022 is an exposition held annually in Japan that is sponsored by Shueisha. Shueisha is the publisher of Weekly Shōnen Jump, Saikyō Jump, Weekly Young Jump, and many other publications. This year’s Jump Festa is taking place December 18 and 19. The event has already begun announcements for various series. Some of the coverage involved this year includes Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Haikyu!!, Black Clover, Bleach, Chainsaw Man, and naturally, Dragon Ball Super, among many other manga series. Reveals at the event will range from manga and anime to film and video games.

On Twitter, Kami Sama Explorer – the editor of the Dragon Ball fan site of the same name based in Brazil – shared artwork welcoming fans to Jump Festa 2022, which features Goku, Granolah, and Vegeta in his Ultra Ego form. It reveals that Vegeta has pinkish red pupils and purple tinted hair. Goku may call it “freaky-face mode,” but Vegeta’s increased power is certainly no laughing matter. While fans may have wanted to see the Super Saiyan with yellow pupils, the official coloration is very fitting considering the type of ki involved.

Vegeta’s hair, like Goku’s, changes color based on his ki for various transformations. It has ranged from yellow to blue, though when not powered up it is black. Now, he has a new hair – and pupil – color for Ultra Ego. While the regular art makes his hair appear almost all black thanks to the monochrome style, the Jump Festa art shown in multiple posts from Kami Sama Explorer suggests it’s actually a deep magenta. This is very fitting since Destruction Ki within the Dragon Ball franchise has a purple aura. This has been seen with the Gods of Destruction, such as Beerus and Champa, as well as Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, and Top. The look is actually slightly reminiscent of his Super Saiyan God form, albeit darker and more purple to reflect the energy of Destruction.

The Ultra Ego form emerged during Vegeta’s battle with Granolah, the sole remaining Cerealian. This form allows the Saiyan Prince to tap into Ultra Instinct-level power without losing control of his body. Ultra Instinct is an Angel technique, which doesn’t really fit Vegeta’s nature or preferred combat style. In contrast, his Ultra Ego form is a perfect mirror of Goku’s Ultra Instinct, reflecting the duality these warriors have as rivals and reluctant allies. They exhibit their strength in different ways and excel at tapping into different aspects of power. While it may not have been what some fans were anticipating, this coloration is incredibly fitting. Vegeta’s power in Dragon Ball Super is rising once again and as his story continues, it will be interesting to see how he employs his Ultra Ego form long-term.
