Today, November 16, Bandai Namco pulled back the lid on Dragon Ball: The Breakers, an asymmetrical multiplayer game that bears a lot in common with Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight. The most recent Dragon Ball game, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, launched across consoles and PC in 2020, then received a Nintendo Switch release this past September.

Come January, a full two years will have passed since a new interactive adventure hit store shelves for the ever-popular brand. Support for recently released entries keeps Dragon Ball faithful busy, however. In August, for instance, Bandai Namco updated Dragon Ball FighterZ with several new mechanics and balance changes. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2’s Legendary Pack 2 DLC hit digital storefronts earlier this month. But the post-launch support for these titles hasn’t kept curiosity about the next major release at bay. Fortunately, the wait has come to an end, with Bandai Namco unveiling a Dead by Daylight-esque project.

Sometime in 2022, Bandai Namco Entertainment plans to release Dragon Ball: The Breakers for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This new titles assumes the form of an asymmetrical multiplayer game, much like Dead by Daylight, wherein seven survivors trapped in a Temporal Seam must survive repeated encounters with the overly powerful Raider in order to escape. In Behaviour Interactive’s popular horror title, the Killer is usually a menacing figure with supernatural qualities such as Freddy Krueger, Resident Evil’s Nemesis, or Dead by Daylight’s very own Wraith or Clown. Dragon Ball: The Breakers presents its Raiders as three formidable characters – Buu, Cell, and Frieza – who can evolve by successfully catching their victims. In a Twitter post, Bandai Namco US announced a Closed Beta Test for PC that should go live “soon.” Catch the first glimpse of Dragon Ball: The Breakers in the following reveal trailer.

The publisher bills The Breakers as the “ultimate game of survival” but it remains to be seen how exactly the new Dragon Ball game will fare in such a genre. Regardless, this could prove an interesting premise for the brand, especially if properly executed.

Preorders are currently live for Dragon Ball: The Breakers, which still remains shrouded in at least a bit of mystery. For one, wording on the official website suggests Buu, Cell, and Frieza won’t serve as the only Raiders. Either Bandai Namco intends to announce more prior to release or plans are in place to unleash additional Raiders as post-launch DLC. Precedent across other titles dictates it could go both ways.
