Dragon Quest 12 Should Add Races From Dragon Quest 10

Although footage of Dragon Quest 12 still hasn’t been revealed, the game has been confirmed as being in development for a couple of years now. Each mainline game in the franchise typically adds in something new to go along with the series’ traditional turn-based combat and good vs. evil storylines. This time around, new races – like the ones from Dragon Quest 10 – should be added to DQ12 in order to create a richer, fuller world.

Unfortunately, Dragon Quest 10 has never been localized in the West, meaning millions of fans still haven’t had a chance to play the MMORPG. The races in DQ10 range from small, green “poppets” to an aquatic race known as Wetlings, or Weddies. Other races, although named after more traditional fantasy staples like dwarves, ogres, and elves, all have their own unique features that make them stand out. It’s a great part of DQ10, and it should definitely be a part of Dragon Quest 12 as well.

Traditionally, the characters in other mainline Dragon Quest games have mostly been human. Even the few non-human races, like Celestrians in Dragon Quest IX, still look decidedly human. In this respect, DQ10 is fairly unique in the way it introduces colorful humanoid races with their own cultures, characteristics, and traits. With the 35th Anniversary of Dragon Quest quickly approaching, more races in the next mainline game would be a great way to shake up the series’ formula.

Why Dragon Quest 12 Should Have More Races

Adding in non-human races to Dragon Quest 12 would create a richer, fuller world full of more distinctive kingdoms and cultures. The towns in Dragon Quest games already feel pretty different, but adding in new races would be a great way to let those locations stand out even more. It could also add an extra layer to gameplay, especially if players can choose their hero’s race like in Dragon Quest 10. So far, almost every mainline hero has been a human, so this could help DQ12 set itself apart a bit more from the other games in the franchise.

Although nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it’s very likely that Dragon Quest 12 footage will be shown either at the 35th Anniversary celebration or during Square Enix’s E3 showcase this year. For now, though, nothing concrete is really known about the next entry in the long-running JRPG series. However, the prospect of having more races in Dragon Quest 12 is definitely exciting, and it’s something that will hopefully be added.
