Drummers Expanse Season 6 Plan Explained (& Why She Wants Walkers Help)

Warning! SPOILERS for The Expanse season 6

Camina Drummer found herself backed into a corner at the start of The Expanse season 6, but in episode 2 “Azure Dragon,” she begins to formulate a plan to seek retribution on Marco Inaros with the help of a fellow Belter outsider. Drummer and her faction reluctantly joined Marco’s Free Navy in The Expanse season 5 before staging an explosive betrayal in the finale. Marco responded by executing one of her crew members aboard his ship and placing a hefty bounty on Drummer’s head. Alone in the void with just one ship to her name, Drummer appears to have lit the spark of her own revolution against the Free Navy.

In The Expanse season 6, episode 2, Drummer arranges a meeting with Liang Walker — a Golden Bough faction leader — to send Michio away, but learns from him that Marco looks down upon his branch of the faction. Golden Bough had previously pledged itself to the Free Navy. However, Walker also mingles with a group of dissidents looking to cross Marco. During their meeting, Walker conveys that he knows the location of Marco’s supply depots, with Drummer suggesting that they coordinate to steal from them.

Raiding Marco’s supply caches is a high-risk, high-reward endeavor for Drummer. The Belt is running low on food and water, so if she succeeds, she could both turn the tide of the war and save millions of her people. Combining Walker’s fleet with her own promises to grant her the necessary support to make her grand entrance at the forefront of the war. Always placing her loyalty to the Belt above anything, Drummer is on course for a fitting storyline in The Expanse season 6.

Drummer’s plan is a perfect way to get her revenge on Marco. She desperately needs allies for protection from bounty hunters, so she now has the leverage to emerge from the shadows. After watching one spouse die and having two more leave her, Drummer could also use a moral victory. Her seemingly endless suffering can take a turn for the better with this opportunity to derail Marco’s forces and rescue the Belt from further misery.

Given that the original purpose of Drummer’s meeting with Walker was to offload Michio, it’s encouraging to see a different result of the encounter. Getting rid of Michio after her mistake, however costly, always seemed rather harsh, considering her efforts to save Drummer and insistence on standing by her in The Expanse season 5 finale. Michio now has a second chance to prove that she can bear the responsibilities of war and withstand the fight against Marco.

By the end of The Expanse season 6, episode 2, Drummer’s arc has firmly taken shape. Not only does it mirror Michio Pa’s trajectory from the books but it also paves the way for a fitting conclusion to Drummer’s story. In season 5, Drummer and her polyamorous family scavenged throughout the Belt to get by. Now, in season 6, Drummer can reassume that role and save the Belt, like a true pirate.
