Dwayne Johnson is one of Hollywood’s most famous, highest paid, and highest-grossing actors, having played roles in the likes of Moana, San Andreas, Baywatch, Red Notice and Jumanji. Johnson began his career as a professional wrestler, famously known as The Rock. His first TV job, in 1999, he appeared on That ’70s Show, playing his father, and his first film in 2001, appearing in The Mummy Returns.
Having now appeared in multiple films and TV shows from comedy to action, and having a hilarious on-screen and off-screen relationship with comedian and actor, Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson is a beloved celebrity. With all the films he’s starred in over the years, it’s hard to know which are Dwayne Johnson’s absolute best.
7 Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is an adventure film sequel to Journey To The Center Of The Earth. 4 years after their previous adventure, Sean and his stepfather (Dwayne Johnson) travel to the South Pacific to track a distress signal. The pair, and a helicopter pilot Gabato and his daughter Kailani, start the mission to the mysterious island to rescue whoever sent the signal.
When they reach the island, they discover prehistoric animals inhabit the land – the Dwarf Sicilian elephant, giant lizards, huge butterflies, giant birds and bees big enough to fly on. They discover and travel to the lost city of Atlantis, which re-submerges above water every 70 years. Having managed to save the only person on the island, the group must hatch a plan to get home safely.
6 San Andreas (2015)
In another of Dwayne Johnson’s action films, San Andreas shows the study of earthquakes, as two scientists are testing earthquakes of high magnitude. The testing equipment fails, triggering a major earthquake that causes the San Andreas Fault to shift which will cause a domino effect of further earthquakes.
When a major earthquake hits LA and San Francisco, fireman Ray Gaines embarks on a rescue mission and races to save his nearly-ex wife from the skyscraper that she’s trapped in. Once he successfully rescues his wife, the pair set out to rescue their daughter, Blake, who’s in San Francisco when another earthquake hits. Parts of America are in total ruin as Ray Gaines attempts to save as many as he can in this disaster film.
5 Central Intelligence (2016)
Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart) and Robbie Weirdicht (Dwayne Johnson) rekindle their relationship after losing touch after high school. Although they weren’t really friends, Weirdicht was the victim of bullying and Joyner, a star athlete at the time, was the only one who offered him kindness. Now a forensic accountant, Joyner reviews some transactions for Weirdicht (now called Bob Stone), which all seem incriminating.
CIA Agents arrive at Joyner’s house, looking for Stone, who wasn’t there, and inform him that Stone is a former CIA Agent who has murdered his partner. In a game of cat-and-mouse between Stone and the CIA, Joyner is left as an in-between – not sure who to trust. Joyner agrees to help Stone, believing that he is telling the truth – he didn’t kill his partner and he’s trying to hunt the person who did.
4 The Fast And Furious Franchise (2011-To Present)
The Fast And Furious franchise contains 11 films and the spin-off series Hobbs And Shaw. Dwayne Johnson stars in 7 entries, a mixture between Fast And Furious proper and Hobbs And Shaw. Fast And Furious 7 (2015) is Dwayne Johnson’s most popular. In Fast And Furious 7, Dom, Brian, Letty and the Fast And Furious gang’s past life has caught up with them again as Owen Shaw’s brother (the villain they’d previously defeated) has a brother out for revenge. The cast are caught up in the mercenary life once more.
The ending of Fast And Furious 7 is extremely heartfelt and emotional – as the cast and characters pay homage to and honor the life of Paul Walker, who died in a car accident the same year as Fast And Furious 6. 7 gave Paul Walker and Brian O’Connor (his character) a proper goodbye.
3 Jungle Cruise (2021)
Jungle Cruise is a 2021 adventure film based on the Disney theme park ride of the same name. Jungle Cruise follows Lily and MacGregor Houghton (Emily Blunt and Jack Whitehall) embarking on the trip of a lifetime to locate a magical tree with healing powers in the Amazon.
Alongside their skipper Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson), a comedic conman, the trio battle the dangers of the Amazon in an attempt to make a change in the medicine industry. Frank and his adorable pet jaguar, Proxima, take the brother and sister duo and successfully locate the Tears Of The Moon.
2 Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle (2017)
Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle an adventure comedy centering on four teenagers who stumble upon an old video game console and fall into the game’s universe, turning into the video game’s characters – played by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas. As the teenagers figure out that they’re in the video game – with only three lives. Nigel Billingsley acts as the guide to the game, telling the teenagers what they need to do in order to complete the game. Each character is presented with skills and weaknesses, and the teenagers must figure out what they are before falling into a trap of the game.
1 Moana (2016)
Moana is the animated Disney musical following the life of Moana – a young Polynesian girl with an adventurous nature, desperate to explore outside the parameters of her island. Daughter of a chief, Moana is under strict instructions not to venture out into the ocean, but does so anyway in order to save the island.
She sets out to find Maui, a demigod residing on a different island, once she learns it’s he stole the heart of Te Fiti, and has caused a curse upon the island. Having set sail with her pet rooster, Hei Hei, to convince Maui to return the heart of Te Fiti. Maui accompanies Moana on her mission, facing dangerous seas and threatening animals. Johnson notably does his own singing for Maui and does a great job.
