DWTS Jenna Calls JoJo Little Sister After Grease Night Perfect Score

After earning the first perfect score of the season during Grease Night on Dancing With The Stars, Jenna Johnson called JoJo Siwa her “little sister.” The two women have shared a special bond with each other since their groundbreaking debut as the show’s first ever same-sex dance partners. They attribute their success to the friendship and trust that they have built since day one.

Jenna and JoJo danced the foxtrot to “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee (Reprise),” dressed in pink costumes as Frenchy and Sandy. In the film, Frenchy helps Sandy to transform herself and find out who she really is on the inside. This was reflected in the relationship between Jenna and JoJo, as Jenna has really helped JoJo come out of her shell and accept herself throughout this season. The judges were floored after the emotional routine, with notoriously critical Len Goodman rising to his feet to tell the women, “You affected my brain with the quality of the technique. You affect my heart with the artistry that you produced. It was superb.” Derek Hough called the dance “a moment,” and Bruno Tonioli said he was “still shivering.” Carrie Ann Inaba called it “perfection,” which was proven with four 10s across the board, resulting in the first perfect score of the season.

In an interview with ET, Jenna and JoJo spoke about how their special bond translates into their exquisite dance routines. The women’s trust in each other allows them to take risks and push boundaries in their dances, something that the judges have encouraged. Jenna recalled, “Last week, Carrie Ann told us that we played it a little bit safe, and those words just burned my soul. So I came in on Wednesday swinging with this foxtrot choreography.” This dance pushed JoJo harder as a dancer than any other had before. She said, “I think we put in so much work this week, and this number, oddly enough, has been the most challenging for me. So to see it be perfect on stage, it just shows that hard work, believing in yourself and trusting the people that you’re doing things with really pays off.” The trust between the two women is something that has grown since the minute they met. From the very beginning, Jenna has been a cheerleader and role model for JoJo, encouraging her to embrace herself, both emotionally and physically. She explained her feelings for JoJo, saying, “I really do feel like she has become a little sister to me. It has been so magical to go through this whole experience with her.”

Earlier in the week, ET was invited to the camera blocking for Grease Night, and Lauren Zima spoke to the pair about their relationship. During that interview, the women discussed JoJo’s Sandy-like transformation. JoJo said, “I think, for us, [this is] the dance that we can relate to the most personally in our lives, especially with each other. And so we’ve been able to almost not have to act this week, and it’s been really great.” Jenna agreed, saying, “I feel like we’re really seeing a new JoJo emerge these past few weeks.” She wanted to remind people that, even though JoJo is a powerhouse woman, she is still a teenage girl with insecurities, and that is especially difficult when someone is a dancer. As JoJo gains more confidence and becomes more comfortable with her body, she credits Jenna with her ability to do so. She said, “It’s wild how things can single-handedly change your life, and this person has single-handedly changed the way that I think about myself, look at myself, feel about myself.”

When Jenna and JoJo became the first same-sex partners on Dancing With The Stars, everyone knew they would change the show forever. However, what people did not realize is how much they would transform each other’s lives. They are a beautiful example of the power of female friendship and of relationships that build women up to be their very best selves. Whether they receive 10s or not, that is perfect.

Dancing With The Stars airs Mondays at 8pm on ABC.
