Although some of Square Enix’s titles have already been featured in yesterday’s Sony E3 2015 Press Conference, such as World of Final Fantasy and Hitman, the renowned developer still has proven that there are a few tricks up its sleeve. For instance, Square Enix has used this year’s demonstration to confirm the next entries in two long-awaited and critically acclaimed franchises: Kingdom Hearts 3 and Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness.
Although news regarding the existence of both titles has been common knowledge in the gaming industry for quite some time, as Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced way back in E3 2013, the presence of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is still relatively fresh, since its development was confirmed a couple of months ago by an issue of Famitsu. Plus, having gameplay trailers for each of the games to show off what they can do is a welcome surprise, especially for Western fans of tri-Ace, the development studio behind the Star Ocean series. Now, gamers now know that Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness will release sometime in North America and Europe in 2016.
The video above takes us to an uncivilized planet called Fakelead, which is 6,000 light years away from Earth. While it shows off many wondrous, futurism-influenced environments like the windmill-decorated city in the mountains and the quaint town with English architecture, the Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithless trailer focuses mainly on the battle system.
Much like the previous releases in the series, the game relies on real-time fighting tactics, so as to maximize the fluidity of the action. Players can switch between characters to take advantage of an individual’s unique magical properties, or gamers can take the blunt approach and chain combos together in order to deal out more damage. Plus, boss battles will feature the entire party facing off against the foe at one time.
As said before, news about Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness’ story and characters has been revealed a while back, but today’s gameplay trailer helps build upon an already interesting premise. The game centers around Fedel Camus, a sword-fighter and a fencer who wishes to protect his home village in the Reslia Kingdom during a conflict brewing within the Galactic Federation, Miki Sorvesta, Fidel’s childhood friend who shares a platonic brother and sister kind of relationship, and Lilia, who happens to be an emotionless and amnesiac girl.
Hopefully, the three companions will find and survive a bevy of engaging adventures in the upcoming game. And with faithful combat mechanics and an epic plot in place, it looks like Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness fans will have no choice but to follow them.
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is set for release in North America and Europe sometime in 2016 for PlayStation 4.
