Elden Ring How to Complete Sorceress Sellens Quest

The questlines in Elden Ring are prolonged and involved affairs with little to guide a Tarnished in the direction they should go. They provide dedicated players with lore, hidden locations, powerful items and sometimes alternate endings to the story. The quest involving Sorceress Sellen is one many players will begin early on in their playthrough, and thankfully requires few steps yet yields great rewards.

Sorceress Sellen is an NPC who is found in the Waypoint Ruins, a patch of moss-covered rocks just off the eastern road in Limgrave. Players will find the Sorceress in her study, and if they like can enter into an apprenticeship under her. Sellen will offer several spells for the player to purchase, but that’s all she’ll do until the player reaches Mt. Gelmir much later in the game.

Though Sellen doesn’t specifically ask players to do so at first, she wants them to seek out her former masters from the Academy at Raya Lucaria. The first of Sellen’s old teachers is found at the Primeval Sorcerer Azur Site of Grace. Sorcerer Azur will say nothing, but he will gift the player a spell called Azur’s Comet, which furthers Sellen’s quest. Players must return to speak with her. She will then expound upon her backstory, why she was exiled from the Academy at Raya Lucaria, and what her plans are currently.

Sellen will then give the player a Sellian Sealbreaker to help in their search for her other former master, Lusat. Finding Master Lusat is the most frustrating part of this quest, as he is located behind a total of three illusory walls, deep within the Sellia Hideout. Players will need to descend to the Hideout’s lowest levels and find the bright blue spell barrier. Using the Sellian Sealbreaker will reveal Master Lusat, who will grant players the Stars of Ruin spell. Then, it’s back to Sorceress Sellen at Waypoint Ruins.

Sellen will thank players for being such dutiful apprentices and mention that the form players see before them is only a projection of her true self. At this point, players will need to beat the Starscourge, General Radahn to free up Jerren the Witch-Hunter from his duties at the festival. This will allow players to speak again with Sellen, who will reveal the location of her real body: the Witchbane Ruins on the Weeping Peninsula. Once players find the body, she will give them her very essence, a Primal Glintstone.

The next step of Sellen’s quest involves finding her a new body. Thankfully, one is already waiting in a hidden area within some ruins near Ranni’s Rise. These ruins aren’t marked on the map, but they lay between Ranni’s and Renna’s Rise, behind Caria Manor. At the center of the ruins is an illusory floor, underneath which is a hidden area. At the back of the area is yet another illusory wall, hiding a sorceress who looks suspiciously like Sellen. Players can transplant the Primal Glintstone into her body, giving Sellen control and making her once again available to sell spells.

Jerren holds the key to the next parts of the quest. Players who speak to him at Redmane Castle will learn that his duties are done and that he has a new task in a mind. He’ll leave the castle shortly thereafter, but players can find him in the Witchbane Ruins where Sellen’s real body was. Jerren will explain to the player that Sellen is perhaps the most dangerous witch alive, with countless victims felled by her hand. He doesn’t think Sellen is dead, and vows to track her down.

The finale of Sellen’s questline sees players choosing who to help. Jerren’s details of Sellen’s crimes are long and make her exile from the Academy of Raya Lucaria seem justified. On the other hand, players have helped Sellen thus far, they’ve been rewarded handsomely and she will most likely continue rewarding them for faithful service. Players must head to the Grand Library at the Academy of Raya Lucaria and make their choice. Outside the entrance to the library are two summon signs, one red and one gold. Players who choose the red sign will be summoned to help Jerren the Witch-Hunter defeat Sellen and end her deadly lust for power. Players who choose the gold summon sign will be summoned to assist Sellen in fighting off Jerren.

If players help Jerren, they’ll be rewarded with Sellen’s gear and Bell Bearing. If players help Sellen, they’ll be rewarded with Jerren’s gear and Sellen will set up shop in the Grand Library, allowing players to continue purchasing spells. They can also return to both Azur and Lusat to find their clothes as well. Though there isn’t an alternate ending for helping Sellen, she does pledge her allegiance to the soon-to-be Elden Lord and gifts them a Glintstone Kris as a sign of hers and the Academy’s fealty. Sellen’s quest is one of the easier in Elden Ring, and nowhere near as long as Ranni’s quest, while still providing plenty of lore, runes and powerful spells.
