Epic Games Store Prison Architect is the Second Part of an Awesome OneTwo Punch

As always, the Epic Games Store free game rotation will change up on Thursday, and users will be able to snag a new pair of games. Prison Architect and Godfall: Challenger Edition will be up and available from December 9 to December 16, and while some have concerns about Godfall: Challenger Edition’s content, Prison Architect is a solid snag for anyone who hasn’t played it.

Prison Architect has been around since 2015 so it’s not the latest to hit the Epic Games Store free game selection, but it’s a solid game with good reviews on Metacritic. Thematically, it’s also a good game for those who picked up The Escapists on the Epic Games Store back in September.

Epic Games Store: Prison Architect vs. The Escapists

The general premise of each game is pretty simple. In Prison Architect, players must try to keep their prison maintained, managed, and going well. There are a few prison types, a few difficulties, and a few ways to fail (riots necessitating the National Guard, bankruptcy, too many prisoner deaths/escapes, too many wrongful executions, etc.), but the goal is simple: keep the prison running.

Meanwhile, in The Escapists, it’s all about escaping prisons on an escalating scale. There are plenty of ways to do this, via riots, finding an office disguise, putting dummies in bed, and all other sorts of prison escape chaos. The Escapists also has solid reviews, if as a whole a little lower than Prison Architect, and it has a dedicating follow that helped a sequel, The Escapists 2, come out. Either way, the two games complement each other well for back-to-back playthroughs: manage a prison or escape one.

Notably, Prison Architect has an Escape Mode with a similar premise to The Escapists, but with different features and focuses, those who enjoy this style of game have received solid offerings from Epic Games Store. It remains to be seen what comes after this week and when/if Epic Games Store begins its typical December/holiday game giveaway, but there’s a nice symmetry with these two games.

As always, the Epic Games Store is bound to announce the next games when Godfall and Prison Architect release this week, but it may not be the typical formula if it’s giving away a dozen or more games for the holidays (as in the past couple of years). It could announce when it starts then at the very least, but fans of free games ought to keep an eye on the Epic Games Store this month.

Epic Games Store users get a handful of free games every month.
