Eternals’ Kumail Nanjiani Developing Fairy Tale Sidekick Film

Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordo are ready to give your favorite sidekicks the spotlight in their new film, Sidekicks.

Some of film’s most famous sidekicks may be starring in an upcoming film thanks to The Eternals’ star Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily V. Gordo.

The Illuminerdi is reporting that the film will be centered around a group of sidekicks as they try to rescue their heroes. Chernin Entertainment is the studio behind the project, entitled Sidekicks, which is said to be requesting a budget of around $100 million dollars. Nanjiani and Gordo will pen the script.

Nanjiani is attached to play the Woodsman, the man who failed to kill Snow White, while Zazie Beetz is believed to be playing Tinkerbell. Other cast members include Zach Galifianakis as Slappy, one of the Seven Dwarfs, and Will Ferrell as Merlin, the mystical wizard from the legends of King Arthur.

Directed by Jeff Tomsic, Sidekicks doesn’t currently have a release date, though the production team is hoping to begin sometime in the summer of 2020.

Directed by Chloé Zhao with a screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo, The Eternals stars Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Gemma Chan as Sersi and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, aka the Black Knight. The film arrives in theaters on Nov. 6.
