Every Disney Prince Ranked, By How Useful They Actually Are

While not ever Disney prince is brilliant, with some only being involved in the film for brief periods, many of them prove to be incredibly useful.

The Disney princes can often be quite underrated at times in terms of how useful they are. Often they get overlooked for the princesses that are involved in the films and people forget about just how much some of the prince characters actually do throughout the movie.

While not ever Disney prince is brilliant, with some only being involved in the film for brief periods, many of them prove to be incredibly useful. But which of the Disney princes has the biggest impact within their respective movies?

10 The Prince (Snow White And The Seven Dwarves)

Out of all the Disney princes, there is no doubt that the least useful is The Prince, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. While he was the first-ever Disney prince, he didn’t make much of an impact as he is barely in the film, simply swaying in with loves first kiss to awaken the princess at the end.

They have one interaction prior to that and overall he just doesn’t play much of a role. He might be the original, but this is how the precedent of the princesses always needing saving first came from. The fact he doesn’t have a name is a clear sign of his impact, with the dwarves putting way more effort in.

9 Prince Charming (Cinderella)

When it comes to how much use a prince is, Prince Charming doesn’t do much more than The Prince. He doesn’t have to fight for his love like others in this list, in fact, he just makes his appearance, does some dancing and instantly falls in love.

However, he does have to put slightly more effort in as he has to learn who the glass slipper belongs to. In fairness to him, Prince Charming stops at nothing to find out who the shoe belongs to, but he’s only riding around in a carriage, so he can’t rank too high.

8 Li Shang (Mulan)

This might seem like a fairly low rating for someone who is literally leading an army throughout the movie, however, he doesn’t quite get the same amount of time on-screen to showcase his skills in comparison to others. Plus, while he is a great leader, a lot of his time is spent delegating, rather than doing.

He does happily go into battle and he is clearly very skilled with a sword, proving he is useful. However, he does also always have a trained army behind him helping him out, which isn’t always the case for the other princes.

7 Beast (Beauty And The Beast)

There’s no doubt that the Beast is one of the most popular princes, which is because of how good the movie is, but that doesn’t mean he’s one of the most useful princes. Yes, he manages to battle with Gaston and cause problems for him to save Belle, but throughout the film, he is of very little use.

It’s his arrogant attitude that gets the entire castle turned into household objects, and it’s his anger problems that almost sees them stay that way. The likes of Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts do a lot of the groundwork in softening him for Belle, and even when the castle is first attacked, he has no interest in helping his friends defend it.

6 Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid)

Prince Eric is certainly a useful prince within The Little Mermaid, as he leaps into action in an attempt to battle against Ursula, despite the obvious disadvantages he faces. He happily battles against the sea witch and he proves his ability by defeating her with his ship, staring danger directly in the face.

The only thing holding him back is that he doesn’t have to go through trials and tribulations throughout the entire film, which other characters do. He’s not constantly fighting and with Ariel not even talking for a lot of their interactions, he clearly struggles in analysing body language.

5 Aladdin (Aladdin)

Aladdin is certainly one of the most popular princes, and unlike many on this list, the film is actually all about him rather than the princess. Because of that, he gets to really showcase what he can do and that is certainly a lot, with his ability to duck and dodge danger being particularly impressive.

He’s not so much a fighter, but more someone who has no fear because he’s lived at the very bottom in the poorest conditions. Of course, Aladdin does receive an awful lot of help throughout the film as well with The Genie, Abu, and the Magic Carpet, and that stops him ranking much higher.

4 John Smith (Pocahontas)

John Smith is often a very underrated character from Disney, mainly because he really is incredibly useful. He’s the man that his entire army get behind as the captain, with Smith being the true star. He’s a leader but someone who is happy to put himself in danger as well.

He literally takes a shot to save Pocahontas in the movie, almost dying to keep her alive. He showcases an ability to fight when needed to, but also push the idea that peace is the key, trying to keep people from arguing and stopping an unnecessary war.

3 Prince Phillip (Sleeping Beauty)

When it comes to usefulness, Prince Phillip has to rank fairly high as he stares down a dragon and shows no fear at all. He might not be the most exciting character on this list, but in terms of usefulness, there’s no denying he has a place as he battles Maleficent with courage.

He is a true knight in shining armour style of a prince, which is fairly different from the rest of this list, but it does make him one of the most useful princes of all time.

2 Prince Naveen (Princess And The Frog)

Prince Naveen might be quite arrogant at times, but he also showcases that he is more than happy to get his hands dirty to help out if needed. He learns throughout the film that it is more about being a good man, rather than just being rich.

He is literally turned into a frog and he still proves his use throughout the film. He’s charming and has a real ability to talk the talk, but he also happily puts himself through dangerous moments as well, really proving to be useful.

1 Flynn Rider (Tangled)

While Flynn Rider starts out as a bit of a sleazeball who is happy to rob and steal, he does eventually show his true self to Rapunzel. However, even when he is a criminal, Flynn proves just how useful he is by being able to rob the crown and do everything he can to avoid getting caught.

Throughout the movie, Flynn constantly tries to help Rapunzel and shows great brains and brawn when needed. He puts himself in the firing line and goes all out for Rapunzel once he realizes he is in love, and he gets plenty of screen time to prove that in comparison to many of the other princes.
