If there’s one thing Quentin Tarantino can do, it’s writing incredible villains. Here are all of his main antagonists, ranked by ruthlessness!

While his protagonists are typically those at the forefront of his films, Tarantino is just as skilled at creating brilliant and mesmerizing antagonists. Just like his main characters, he loads them up with violence and dark humor. What he also manages to achieve, is a level of twisted mania in each of them.

Whether it is crazed violence that lives on the surface through angry shouts and dramatic actions, or a subtle shift of the eyes that gives it all away, we notice it. We’ve ranked all of the main antagonists in Tarantino films based on a variety of factors, from how funny they are, to how well-acted the roles are.

9 Marsellus Wallace (Pulp Fiction)

8 Charles Manson (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood)

Damon Herriman did such an incredible job at portraying one of the most famous serial killers of all time on Mindhunter that he was cast by Tarantino to reprise the same exact role for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

We expected him to be the main protagonist in the film, so while his very brief appearance is absolutely excellent, we simply can’t rank him any higher than this.

7 Elle Driver (Kill Bill)

One of the members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad who had a long and violent relationship with Beatrix Kiddo was also one of her most formidable foes during her tour of revenge.

She competed with Beatrix for the affections of Bill in their past life and was shown to be arrogant and brash. We got to see her eye plucked by Pai Mei, who she then killed before Beatrix defeated her and plucked her other eye out for good measure.

6 Daisy Domergue (The Hateful Eight)

The Hateful Eight was a slow burner and relatively divisive amongst Tarantino fans, especially considering the calibre of his previous two releases.

She was brilliant throughout and allowed herself to blend into the crowd as the men took turns blaming each other- it wasn’t until those final moments that Dasiy revealed the true craziness within and we got to see her hung for her crimes.

5 Budd (Kill Bill)

As a member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, Budd was known as one of the most ruthless and feared assassins around in his heyday. He held a morsel of remorse for what he did to Beatrix, but that didn’t stop his brutal attempts to stop her revenge.

While he wasn’t as instantly disposable as many of her other foes, he instantly comes out top of the group for being the only one to overpower her and force her into arguably her worst situation since the wedding.

4 Mr Blonde (Reservoir Dogs)

Throughout most of Reservoir Dogs, there isn’t really one distinct antagonist present as each of the characters have their own individual repulsive tendencies.

However, Mr Blonde really steps up to the mark during the film’s pivotal scene: he dances to ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’ while chopping off the ear of a policeman, presenting his very clear and very brutal aggression.

3 Stephen (Django Unchained)

Django Unchained was a strange, controversial film that worked in all of the reasons nobody expected. Samuel L. Jackson steps into his finest Tarantino role as Stephen, the house slave who ruled over the plantation, effectively having power over Calvin Candie.

The way Jackson manages to get everybody on his side through old age and kindness makes him even more effective when he reveals his true self.

2 Bill (Kill Bill)

When we finally catch up with Bill in the present day at the very end of Kill Bill Vol. 2, he is no longer the murderous villain we saw in action in the flashbacks as he pumped the Bride full of bullets, but an old man looking after his daughter.

Despite having a fancy house and bright lights and letting Beatrix watch a film with B.B., his presence is tense and creepy, creating one of the most powerful scenes in Tarantino history. Even in that final scene, he still doesn’t seem like the torturing murderer we have seen before, which is even more of a testament to the incredible acting performance of David Carradine.

1 Hans Landa (Inglourious Basterds)

Possibly the single created antagonist ever crafted for the screen is Hans Lando. Tarantino himself has stated that he almost abandoned the project after realising the character was impossible to get right until he stumbled upon Christoph Waltz.

He is terrifying to even look at, so how any of the actors in that film managed to stay in the same room as him when he was delivering his lines with such perfect malice is anyone’s guess. The fact that the end of the film revealed how little he actually cared for the Nazi’s anyway just adds to the power.
